They'll likely be able to negotiate a reasonable solution to this. I doubt either party really wants to go to court especially if the kid actually gives a damn about how his time is spent.

If UConn wants to keep a good image they'll let him go.
It could really hurt UConn enrollment to let it go to court. Would look bad to lose (or even win) an age discrimination suit.

No but would you be willing to enroll in a University that discriminates based on age?
Maybe not you personally but it would affect others decisions to enroll. Age discrimination is illegal in the work place but if it were I still don't see many employers discriminating based on age as nobody would want to work there except out of desperation and a desperate worker is not necessarily going to be a good or loyal worker.

He's not old enough to work. He would be taking a position from someone who could use that education and immediately become a productive citizen who pays taxes. We need taxpayers right now. Feth him and his family. FREAK!!!!

It is an interesting problem to be sure and without knowing the particulars I am not certain as to what the schools real issue is considering what we know.
The only real point of contention I have is when the kid said he was just a regular 13 year old. No, no you aren't. Regular 13 year olds aren't working on two advanced degrees at the same time.

Yes, but by the time the brainiac graduates he'll start paying taxes. That means the system will be getting college graduate sized taxes out of him from the time he's 18, not 24 or older. Six more years of taking his hard earned money!

The second lot are a clear and present paedo temptation to all right thinking men. It's hard to believe they are only 13.
Back on topic, discrimination is only illegal when the characteristic being discriminated for or against is not germane to the thing being discriminated about.
For instance, it is illegal to vote unless you are over 18 (or whatever it is in the USA). So voter registration officials legally discriminate against underage voters. Colour blind people can't become forensic scientists because the tests you have to do rely on correct colour vision. Blah blah blah.
I have no idea what laws govern the safety considerations of African field trips, but they are what has to be considered.
