Hi everyone, been gone a long time, but with the whole adepticon weekend i got inspired to get back to work on my minis. Id like your opinions on something. The model pictured in the center is a test paint for my squad of 1000 sons. First question: how is the light sourcing and do you have any advice for improving it? I'm going for an inner glow coming from inside the armor. Second question: is the green a decent color to use? the other two marines pictured is a good representation of my standard marines, helmetless with pale blue tint to the skin. I want my 1000 sons to stand out from the others, but im not sure if im sold on the green. i debated on using a purple color as the rest of my marines have purple glowy eyes with a pinpoint of yellow, at least thats what i was attempting. I think the modeling aspects separate them fairly well with the servo skull heads and more ornamental backpacks, but i wanted that source lighting to make them stand out. I know my painting is substandard, and i apologize.... Question Three: I am debating on painting one shoulder pad in the thousand sons scheme blue and yellow/gold maybe. do you think it would be better to keep the shoulderpads matching the rest of the army, and perhaps change their single leg color from the army typical black/red to blue/gold... I'm kinda stuck, i do like the test model a fair deal and am kinda reluctant to add the blue/gold to my army. Does the green glow clash too much with the blue headed typical troops? As always thanks for your opinion /smile.

I like the way the green looks, but i would think a purple or blue would work better. Also, i see no reason to add any blue or gold to them. As long as they look good to you, then keep them that way.

ill try a purple one for comparison. thanks for your input, i really didnt want the blue gold in there lol. Automatically Appended Next Post: if i were starting a whole new force i'd go with the green, but i gotta say i think the purple meshes with the rest of my army better. Added a thousand sons transfer to make it a touch easier to identify for my opponents. still need to mix a brighter purple for some higher light spots on the lighting effect, but i think ill wait to do the whole batch of em at once. Any opinions on purple vs green?

Someone gave me a cheap trick for source lighting. Basically paint in "rings," starting with the darkest, then doing a slightly thinner a bit lighter, so on and so forth. Keep your blending good and you can get lots of detail in there.
