There is a lot special characters in IG codex.
But I dont see them on board.
Why? Are they too expensive?

Anyway, tell me and discuss about IG special charactors tactics.
How do you use them?

They are pretty expensive, but I think they each bring some cool abilities that give the codex some flexibility, and/or specialization. I think they have to be chosen carefully, and having too many in a single list would be detrimental.

I like harker, I think he gets the most for his points. An extra heavy weapon, 3 special abilities for the squad, and buffs for himself means he packs a serious punch, with mobility if desired. He has so many good builds it's redonculous, and can fill many roles in a list.

I think bastonne is best in a squad on foot with alot of dakka, just to make maximum use of his orders.

Pask makes tanks pretty powerful, but I wouldn't take him except at high point levels. A tank can go down with one shot.

I've never used any of the others, but I see Kreed, Kell, and al'Rahem on quite a few lists on dakka. Kreed and Kell strenthen gunlines quite a bit, while al'Rahem adds alot of tactical flexibility to potentially a large number of models.

Marbo is also on many lists, those who like him really like him.

The eye of terror.

Marbo offers excellent destructive value for his points cost.

Straken is excellent in a "blob" centered list, as he makes massed guardsmen very dangerous to assault even with dedicated assault units. IMO he's the best choice for a company command upgrade.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Marbo is just awesome...

Creed and kell are a staple for my infantry based lists. He makes the damage output of the infantry squads go from pathetic to sub-par

Bastonne seems like too many points to be effective. Sure you can vendetta rush forward and usebring it down on 3 melta guns, but they are unlikely to get a second oppurtunity so you best hope you kill something essential

Harker is a nice choice for the extra firepower and survivabilty and infiltrate

Straken is one mean mother humper in close combat. Give his command squad a medic, carapace armour, bodyguards, and a priest and you have a squad capable of dealing with almost anything in close combat. I use him not in a blob army but in a mech list. He becomes my sole close combat capability but a very effective one at that.

Nork- If he was 55 points I might consider him, but at 110 he is WAY overpriced

Mogul Kamir depends. Some people believe that Furious Charge does not stack with rough riders hunting lance. In which case kamir takes the cake as the worst special character in the history of 40k. As he only gives penalties to your squad. Some people will point out the Tau space pope is equally bad, but the he at least was designed for 4th edition rules not 5th. Having said that I believe FC does stack with hunting lances (as does the INAT FAQ) in which case Kamir becomes better, but the lack of control can still be costly as you might charge something you didn't want to or can't even hurt.

Yarrick. 185 points...umm no thank you

Al'rahem. I have never used him in a game but I can see the potential power of outflanking a large portion of your army

Chenkov makes conscripts spectacular cannon fodder for death star units. have your entire army deployed within 12 inches of the board edge. Have 2 squads of conscripts at the front, and wait for their unit to smash into one of your units of conscripts. then keep feeding units of conscripts into them as your army kills the rest of his or takes objectives. It works wonders for 1000 point nob biker squads of death

Pask is, in my opinion, the best special character the guard have. He can single handedly remove a weakness in your army. And he makes the exterminator and punisher useful

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake.
