can an imperial guard regiment and a space marine chapter be on the same planet and be allys? im sure they can be allies and this is mainly for my friends since they plan to have similar paint jobs on there units, so i said why not just put them on the same planet?

simply put does it work, fluff wise, to have them start on the same planet, and be allies? so to say comrades in arms that share facilities and whatever else comes with being comrades.

well what i've always thought would be cool would be to have a imperial guard regement attached to a SM chapter. (thats just in my fluff for my custom chapter) just like in the great crusade. im 99.9999% sure its fine though recrutment might be an issue as SM trials usually eat up alot of people and that might result in a much smaller regement

but in the end their both part of the imperium so there shouldnt be a problem

that sounds like it could work rather well. im probably going to tell them to make it more of a sector or whatever word describes a bunch of close together planets.

i also got the idea that since they play the perseved "good guy" armies, i play dark eldar, and a friend of mine is a fan of CSM and tyranids, so we could pretty much have a bit of fluff for everyone. We'd probably have a huge war and our actual games will decide who wins or loses in the fluff, as well as marking casualties, and maybe having it as a bit of an escalation league, where we add to the armies. Just thoughts really im not sure if they'll work with only about 4(maybe 5 as we have a friend starting tau) people.

thoughts/concerns?

Any suggestions on how we could pull this off, or at least start it up?

Sounds good. They're both loyalists, and if they have a coherent paint scheme, they'd look really good (i.e guardsmans shoulder-board same as power armour.).

the imperial guard could be a way for the space marine chapter to choose members fit enough to attempt to join the chapter; the guardsmen who live long enough and do enough valorous acts are offered to go into space marine training, if they get through that training or not is a whole different story.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

the Ultramarines do that exact thing with their PDFs(which are at least the equal of any guard unit)

a space marine chapter could easily call upon a guard regiment and one which has a strong connection is feasable.

A way to do this are:
-DH/GK with Inducted Guard
-DH/WH with Inducted Mariens
-Marines with Allied DH/WH Storm Troopers
-Guard with Allied GK

I think he was asking fluff-wise - rather than in game.

If you read his post, he said that two friends had seperate armies and similar colourschemes - and they liked the idea of tying them together.

Now, many Chapters allow failed recruits to assist them - be that as ship crew, personal aides or artificiers.

Now, it's entirely possibly that a Chapter with a system to protect may put forward the most promising (albeit failed) aspirants to join the Imperial Guard in a regiment that works closely with them.

An assault-based Chapter, for example, may welcome a mechanised IG regiment to back them up with heavy guns from time to time.

The fluff fits - go for it!

You can't become a Space Marine if you're past puberty. Pity :(

funny thing is, is that from what i've seen, the space marines are more of a mechanized shooting force, with the IG being the same really, although alot more speed from the guard. at least in my opinion the guard were a bit quicker.

either way, they had a game of 1k points today and the SM player barely managed to take out the imperial guard in the end of the seize ground match. would have been more exciting if they didnt take 3 hours for a game of 1000.
