I got a question that deals with the Dark Eldar codex rules for Grotesques – they have a rule that is called “feel no pain” and it is not the same as the USR. The 5th edition FAQ says that the Grotesques “feel no pain” is not the same and to play it as the codex describes.

The rule says that Grotesques ignores “hits”from shooting that do not insta-kill them. It says it either kills them outright or not at all. So they cannot be “hit” by shooting attacks strength 5 or less.

So here is the scenario – I have 4 Haemonculi and 6 Grotesques sitting on a raider when it is shot and explodes. What happens next?

A. You take 10 dice and roll to wound and apply all the wounds.
B. You take 10 dice and roll to wound and apply the wounds only to non-grotesques.
C. You ignore the entire explosion and only roll for entanglement (pinning).

There was a 4th edition FAQ that did say that Grotesques took a hit from an exploding raider but it was not repeated onto the 5th edition FAQ.

I am also presuming that the “torrent of fire” (allocation of hits) was dropped in 5th edition and we now only allocate wounds – it looks as if all the hits in a raider explosion (a strength 3 hit) is ignored on the grotesques and nothing gets allocated to the IC’s because no hits were converted to wounds.

What say you?

Gah, this is confusing :(

I would say, roll to wound 10 times, and any wounds allocated to Grotesques are ignored.

B. The DE Feel No Pain rule doesn't say not to roll to Wound... it simply allows them to ignore damage from anything that isn't strong enough. Ordinarily (in a unit comprised solely of Grotesques) there wouldn't be any need to roll the wounds. But in a mixed unit, you'll need to allocate the wounds as you would normally for shooting attacks.

Edit: My answer of 'B' was assuming that your 'b' meant that you roll to wound, allocate the wounds as normal, and then just ignore the wounds that went onto Grotesques...

If you meant that you just allocate all of the wounds to non-Grotesques, then, no, not that. See above
