Subject: Renegade Guardsmen?

Malicious Mutant Scum

I have been collecting guard for a bit, and after doing some surfing on FW, I noticed their renegade guard section. I know that once upon a time there was a codex for them (Though I'm sure its tourney banned by now) The real question I have is, since they used to be an army, does anyone BESIDES FW produce models for them?
After all, I love my guard, but who wouldn't want expendability with a dash of "magic"?

Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home." -Glen Bateman, The Stand (C&U), 3rd paragraph of Chapter 42, by Stephen King

Nobody would be able to without getting a C&D letter from GW.
It's not hard to make your own anyway. All it takes is some bog-standard Guardsmen and greenstuff.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

One, what is a C&D letter?
And two, so their codex is dead and gone I assume?

IIRC, you're thinking of the Lost and the Damned list from one of the smaller books like the Eye of Terror or something to that effect.
I don't think it's a 'legal' list anymore, but I may be wrong.
I know my buddy has resurrected his old Chaos Cult army with the new Guard book. He just goes heavy on Psykers and Conscripts and laments the fact that they have an armour save rather than run around naked.

A C&D letter tells you 'stop what you're doing right now or we'll fething rape your wallet and shut you down'.
And no, the Lost and the Damned is no longer a legal army list. You can use the IG codex to play it though.

The Siege of Vraks books have the renegade army lists (part 2 is the book you want).
However, this list is not legal in most tournies and is a little weak. It is quite fluffy though. (both are true of most FW rules).

Use the current IG codex for counts as purposes.
Just gouge current Cadians and Catachans up a bit, add some GS, spikey bits and have a look at the GW Chaos Maruder sprues as they offer plenty of good bits to 'chaosify' guards.
If you take a look through the modelling forums here on Dakka you should find some inspiration.

You could simply use the guard codex but use converted models. It would then be legal completely.

The vehicle upgrade kits are a little pricey. Their infantry models are very pricey (£4 / $US7 per model) with heavy weapon teams being extremely expensive. That said, they are very nice.
The IG codex could do a renegade force with a little bit of counts as but the Vraks2 list has a bit more character (but isn't legal for most tournies).

Shipping on forgeworld is what gets you.
IG codex used to have a section for a renegade army. Or maybe it was a white dwarf. Two editions ago that is. It pretty much said to use a standard guard army without commissars.
I think it would be interesting though to say that chaos turned the commissars and then the guardsmen fought on as they were told to and one day woke up and reasiled they had become devoted to chaos gods. Simply paint them appropriately with a few conversions to represent being possessed. Maybe some chaos bits or something on vehicles.
