So, I went to Adepticon and played in the Gladiator on Friday. I had some great games, met some cool people and had a lot of fun. Even if I had lost all of my games, it would have been a blast.
Anyway, onto my list.

I knew going into this thing I did not have a chance of winning, so I decided to take a list that I knew I would have a lot of fun with, and if I managed to kill a super heavy with it, then that would be great.

I took my CSM Monster Mash Army list:

Deamon Prince, Wings, Mok
Daemon Prince, Wings, Mok
Greater Daemon
9 berzerkers, champ, PF, Rhino
9 berzerkers, champ, PF, Rhino
9 berzerkers, champ, PF, Rhino
9 berzerkers, champ, PW, Rhino
Dreadnought, Dual DCCW, EA, Heavy flamer
Dreadnought, Dual DCCW, EA, Heavy Flamer
Dreadnought, Dual DCCW, EA, Heavy Flamer
Defiler, RAC, CCW
Defiler, RAC, CCW
Defiler, RAC, CCW

I was also the only person at all of Adepticon that day that was wearing a tye-dye shirt.

Round one I fought a guy named Kevin, I believe it was Kevin Brown, but I am not sure. He was actually part of the Dakkadakka detachment. He took Nids and played something like this:

Tervigon
Tyranid prime
3 squads of genestealers
ymgarl genestealers
about 15 gaunts
3 zoanthropes in a spore pod
tyranofex
2 hive gaurd
Barbed Hirodule

Not a perfect recollection, but close

We played on a nice realm of battle board with all sorts of planetstrike terrain
Deployment was short table edges, 24 inches in. The Primary was to control the center, and the secondary was to hold more terrain elements than you opponent. For every player turn that you held the center you gained one point equal to the game turn. So, a point on turn 1, and possibly 5 on turn 5. So, it made things really interesting. Tertiary was score more then 225 VP than your opponent.
There were two special rules for the mission. THe first was that it was night fight the whole game, except when shooting at gargantuan creature of super heavy vehicles. And the second was Vortex grenade. Unlike apocalypse, it could be thrown 12 inches, or detonated in assault instead of making regular attacks.

Kevin deployed first and set up his forces at the edge of his deployment zone basically in a line. There was a fortress in the center of the table dividing the board. I deployed across from him with most of my forces deployed away from his hirodule. I kept a DP in reserve with a vortex grenade. Kevin kept 2 squads of genestealers in reservem along with the ymgarl, and then infiltrated a squad of stealers onto the objective.

Turn 1

I attempted to seize, but failed the role. Kevin moved more firmly onto the objective and then attempted to shoot me with all of his big guns. He made is night fight roll with the hive guard, and shot and immobilized a rhino that was hiding behind the fortress. I was not happy about that. Everything else failed to see. Or if it did see, I did not do anything to me.

My turn 1 I move everything foraward as fast as possible and pop smoke with rhinos. a dread frenzies and stays put. Defilers get stuck in terrain or behind dreads and only advance about 3 inches. I stay put with the immobilized rhino and a dread next to it takes difficult and moves into the fortress. My berzerkers hop out and move toward the fortress

Turn 2

Kevin's reserves bring one spore pod in, and he unloads on my rhinos. Most if his stuff can't see, but whatr does, immobilizes another rhino. Now, in order to get to him, my one mobile rhino will have to either move thrown the wreck, or spend and extra turn going around. He basically holds position, and runs the stealers more onto the objective. I am pretty sure he shot and killed a dreadnought as well. the pod has three zonanthropes and a tyranid prime inside and they shoot up some berzerkers, but I only lose a few.

My turn 2, Daemon prince comes in, and lands in a landing pad about 9 inches from the hirodule. This is good. One dread frenzies and does nothing to my armor. My one mobile rhino tries to move through the wreck and gets immobilized. Great, now all my troops are stuck far away from the objective. Defilers move up, and are stuck behind dreads and rhinos and bad terrain tests, and only make it a few inches.
Shooting: I thrown the votex grenade at the hirodule and do 5 wounds. Which was probably the biggest role of the game. I forget that I dont need a night fight test to see the hirodule, and run the defilers instead. My one dreadnought in the fortress moves and runs toward the Tyranid line. The other two advance slowly. My berzerkers move up, as do an accompanying squad of brerzerkers and I double charge the zoanthropes and tyranid prime. I kill the tyranid prime and most of the zoanthropes.

Turn 3

Kevin unloads on the daemon prince and puts two wounds on him. he moves his stealers to avoid the dreadnought and goes toward the combat with the zoanthropes. He fleets and makes it to assault.
He charges a squad of berzerkers that was running toward his gaunts and kills them. stealers mess up the berzerkers, but I kill a lot too. He has some reserved stealers come on with outflank and assalut a daemon prince. The prince survives and kills several stealers.

My turn 3, my last squad of unengaged berzerekers hops out of its immobilized rhino and charges in to help the berzerkers. defilers and dreads advance, defiler shooting finishes off the hirodule, and one dread makes it over terrain and charges a tervigon. it does two wounds, but gets killed by the tervigon. My greater daemon comes in and helps out berzerkers fighting stealers. Prince assaults a tyranofexx and does a few wounds but is killed.

Its kind of hard to rember the exact detailes after this, but the gist of it is this:
His reserves keep coming in and he ends up killing all my princes and troops except for one berzerker, who gets shot and kiled by hive gaurd. His ymgarl have the vortex grenade, and use it in combat to kill my greater daemon. It scatters and kills my defiler. After that, my remaining defilers get into the game and rampage. the game goes on to turn seven, and between multiple defiler assaults and battle cannons I end up killing all of his models. He was up the whole game, and if I had not gone to turn seven, I would have lost. but my lost shot with my last defiler killed his last model. A very close game, since I needed the table for the win, but managed to get it and score the full 43 points. Whiich was a big surprise. I figure I had lost once my troops were gone, but khorne had other plans.

Me, 43, Kevin, 7 or 8. or something like that.

I will post the other three rounds soon.

Saw your army on Friday.

It looked like a fun list to play.

My second round opponent was a Salamanders player named Wyatt. I believe he went on to get 7th place.

Crazy deployment, deploying along a diagonal line between points 18 inches from the corners. Primary was as follows: the player with a unit closest to their own table edge at the end of the game loses.

I deployed all wrong, with most of my stuff near the table edge, and three defilers up towards his board edge.

His list was like this:
land raider redeemer
land raider
a few squads of marines in rhinos
vulcan
scouts in a land speeder storm
5 TH/SS termies
3 bikes with meltas

the game went down like this: he went first and had a devastating first turn of shooting. it was crazy. with long range shots, he popped 2 rhinos and two defilers. evrything that hit was a pin 6. oh well, sometimes that happens.
I advanved but kept getting shot, his terminators came to fight defilers and killed the one that was left. he immobilized a dreadnought close to my edge and just like that, in turn 2, i had lost primary.
the details are long, but basically, I took one side of the board with 2 berzerkers squads and 2 princes and a dread, and lost the other side because of his terminators and LR and supporting troops.

final turn, it was looking like I could kill all the stuff on his right side, but failed 6 of 8 armor saves on berzerkers, and there went that plan.

I managed to immobilize a speeder, but I was a half inch away from tying the primary with him. He won primary and secondary and tertiary. He got 43, I got 0.

It was a good game, but my dice were not my friends, and his dice were out of control. My berzerkers had ork armor, and I put about 10 penetrating hits on his LR redeemer and rolled ALL 1's and 2's.
I also forgot that we could use warp-flux to redeploy out troops, which could have made a big difference. Oh well. Better luck next time.

Round 3 I fought a Space wolves player. A real nice guy named Mike. The mission was Kill points, and secondary was have more troops in your enemies deployment zone than he has in yours.
Also, thee were crazy special rules this mission. One was mine field. Outside of each deployment zone, (long table edge 12 inches in) there was a minefield. If anything moved over 6 inches, or ran in the shooting phase, it needed a dangerous terrain test. Also, we were given 2 stasis missles. This was a unlimited range small blast that we could give to any 2 models. If we fired it at a unit, then the hit unit could do nothing for a full turn, and could not be affected by anything in anyway for a full turn.

His list was something like this:
Logan
rune priest
wolf priest
wolf lord, thunderwolf, PF, SS
3 grey hunters
3 long fan units
1 terminator armored wolf gaurd squad
5 thunderwolves, 5 storm shields, PF

To sum this up quickly, I advanced behind rhinos, and due to good smoke rolls and not so good roll for him, I was able to get a daemon prince and a berzerker squad on his left flank, and take out 2 long fang units. on the other side, I made good use of my stasis missles and made his thunderwolves chill for 2 turns. He sent his wolf gaurd at me, but a triple charge by a dread, a prince, and a berzerker squad killed them all. Despite all this, when his wolves were finally back in the fight, they killed a bunch of stuff, but I was able to drag them down in a big multi assault, after softening them up with battlecannons.

It was a close game. I won primary by 2 KPs and won secondary and tertiary as well. I had to play cautiously and carefully, and it was a very tactical game.

Round 4 was against an IG horde army with straken. He was a really nice guy named Alex from the UK. He had 199 models. I was DoW deployment, so I had to march all the way across the board to get to him. Just looking at the deployment and the army, I knew I was in trouble.

There were some quirky details, but basically I charged full speed ahead and hit his lines. I killed a lot, but ovor a hundred counter charging stubbord re-rollable LD 9 gaurdsmen are not going anywhere fast. At the end of the game, my walkers were still killing gaurdsmen, but he was still on the objectives, and I was not. A fun game, but I got 0, and Alex got over 30 points.

So, I broke even for the day with my Monster mash Khorne. Gladiator was a ton of fun, I just wish I had been able to fight more superheavies. Because killing superheavies with that list, is a lot of fun.

Thanks again for a great round 1. It set the tone for a great weekend of rolling dice and pushing the toy soldiers around! (I ended up playing 3 games on those realm of battle boards.)

I liked your list a lot - swarms of assaulty, stompy, chaosy machines is just greatly amusing to encounter.
