I was wondering what a 1000 point tyranid swarm would look like.

Im talking about as many bugs as possible on the field while being effective.

Venomthropes, gaunts, and 2 or 3 tervigons... You can fit several MC's in 1000 points, but you'll always want to have genestealers or something else that can actually hit heavy infantry. But trust me, tervigons, gaunts, and venomthropes are excellent together (as they were designed to do).

Just realize your list at 1000 points will only be able to go in one direction at any one time. Fast armies will have a field day with that.

Also, even with poisoned attacks/furious charge and the rest of the goodies, a squad of striking scorpions/boyz/CSM charging can ruin a swarm list. At 1000 points you won't be overwhelmed, but with fearless saves you can really stand to lose a lot.

Tired of reading new rulebooks... Just wanting to play.

2 Tervigons in a 1000 pt army is too much.

1 would be nice, but they are support units. With a swarm army, you will pretty much WANT catalyst and more than likely Toxin Sacs as well. With the necessary min number of gants (assuming you want both to be Troops), you are looking at 1/2 of your army right there.

I'd look into 1 Tervigon, a good size unit of Termagants, Venomthropes, Toxin Hormagaunts, Gargoyles, and the Parasite.

Why Parasite? He adds to your numbers, just like a Tervigon, but also gives a good punch while making good use of some of the best point-for-point units in the game (Gargoyles).

FNP the Gargs and rush them up ASAP while the Hormagaunts are making their way. It's all about hitting hard and fast with a swarm army. Tervigon spam just doesn't really have the power to do much other than fill the board with more bodies than your opponent can take out.

Maybe throw in a group of 2 Zoans for added Synapse and you are golden.

EDIT: Quick lil list I've thrown together. Unfortunately it's hard to add in Venomthropes very easily in a 1000 pt list. The problems with Swarm armies is synapse. Running Tervigons will cause you to have a very slow army. Mechanized will run circles around you. This list caters to hitting fast. Zoans are about the easiest and most useful ways to add synapse for the points. I would say warriors, but the Zoans have far more survivability to high str, low AP fire and add in a much needed anti-armor aspect.

20 Gargs (Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands)
Parasite

Tervigon (Catalyst, Toxin Sacs)
11x Termagants
20x Toxin Hormagaunts
20x Toxin Hormagaunts

2x Zoans

Should be 1000 on the dot if my quick math hasn't gone to the crapper at 3AM...

Not a bad list, though if it were me i'd actually cut a few hormagaunts to give them both upgrades instead of just toxin sacs. re-rolling to wound on the charge makes them a real hammer unit and much cheaper when compared to things like nobz that do the same thing (but slower). Also I would take Hive Guard at 1000 instead of zoans, or one of each, because the likelihood of running into AV13+ is lessened (though certainly not impossible) at a lower point total. Add in that a tervigon is a MC who will get 2d6 on rear armor in CC, if you throw him at it, plus that the Parasite (who i actually really enjoy using) is s6 with rending, you have a couple CC options to take care of high armor too. Overall the greater volume of firepower from hive guard (without the pesky psychic tests that i always seem to roll 11 and 12s for) will hit harder at lower points. at 1500 in a swarm list I think you could up it to 2 tervigons, 2 zoeys, 2 hive guard, and a couple venomthropes with points to spare for upgrades. Just remember not to waste points on stock termagants if you plan on producing them for free with tervie. I always take the minimum for that reason (plus i only have 60 termagant models).

Just some thoughts, good list though!

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.
