I currently play Orks, and as we all know, Orks means a HUGE number of models to buy, glue and paint. I was thinking about starting a second 40K army, but I'm not sure what. All I know is I want a competative army with the LEAST number of models possible. Around a 1500-2000 pt army. What are your thoughts? I've heard that a Nidzilla list is a possibility, or at least it used to be. What armies would you put together?

Oh, it just dawned on me that this should probably be in the 40K army list forum. Can it be moved? Sorry about that.

This has been competitive for me.

Space Wolf 13 Model 1500 Point List

Here is a list I came up with for a 1500 point game. Like some others I just want to see what a low model count Space Wolf Army would do. For another 500 points I can add 2 Land Raiders.

Bjorn the Fell-Handed [Assault Cannon]
Logan Grimnar, The Great Wolf
Logan’s Wolf Guard
-Arjac Rockfist, The Anvil of Fenris
-Wolf Guard [Terminator Armor, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield]
-Wolf Guard [Terminator Armor, Storm Bolter, Frost Axe, Melta-Bombs]
-Wolf Guard [Terminator Armor, Frost Axe Storm Shield, Melta Bombs]
-Wolf Guard [Terminator Armor, Assault Cannon, Chain Fist]

Njal Stormcaller, Lord of Tempests [Runic Terminator Amour]
-Wolf Guard x4 [Paired Wolf Claws]
-Wolf Guard [Heavy Flamer, Chain Fist]

Roster Statistics
Model Count: 13
% Elite: 0.0
% Fast: 0.0
% Heavy: 0.0
% HQ: 54.3
% Troops: 45.7

I liked nidzilla until the new codex... now it just isn't the same. The emphasis has moved onto trygons, mawlocs, and tervigons (and tyrannofexes) as the main MCs. Carnifexes just aren't what they used to be.

Least number of models? You could try a Loganwing. (EDIT: Ninja'd!) If done right, they can be competitive, but generally I think the competitive armies right now are horde or semi-horde (Like Ig, Orks, and Nids) unless you go Space Wolf.

You could try the new Blood Angels... with a few special characters and a land raider or two, you would only have a few boxes of infantry to build and paint. I guess the same could be said for any SM codex though.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Dark Angels Deathwing armies have very few models: terminators, land raiders, dreadnoughts, etc. You'd probably have 35 or so in 2500 points, depending on your list. I miss the days of the old Harlequins-only list, which was also only about 40 models in 2500 points.

Go for Imperial Guard:

A Commissar Lord, Primaris Psycker, two squads of Veterans, and a tank or nine.

This is not the LEAST models, but it will probably be a ton of fun...

Go Blood Angels, take death company, and an absolute crapload of dreadnoughts. If you have skimmed their dex, you will know what I mean about the dreadnoughts :p

I don't own the ork codex, but I think you can do two warbike bosses, four tiny nob units with killcannon battlewagons as troops, and then killcannon battlewagons as HS. Add whatever other stuff will fit. Armork Companork?

Also, I've been sitting here with my Dark Angels codex making Doublewing lists all night and it seems like you're going to have, like, less than 30 models at 1500 even if nobody has special weapons.

"Well, isn't the enemy of your enemy, like, your friend? Or whatever? Can't they team up?"
"Not exactly. In this setting, the enemy of your enemy is still a floating, greasy, armored brain."
"Well, what about his enemy? Maybe you could be friends with him."
"No, because that guy is a mechanical horror in an undying battle shell. He sails from world to world in a flying tomb, serving gods who eat hope."

This army will have few models, win games and throw a monkey wrench into the metagame.

SM:Codex bikers. A capt. on bike opens up the bikes as troops for vanilla marines. They are better than Ravenwing and highly competitive, especially against all mech lists. It is very hard for Mech IG to stand up to all those turbo-boosting bikes with krak grenades.

Who thought DA competitive?

DA can be played competitively.
But I think it requires some Tacticals or a DW/RW dual wing.

Doublewing would do no help to solve the problem of grim average points cost. They made it pain more seriously.

I don't know how you feel about vehicles, as they are more expensive and take longer to put together and paint than your average infantry model, but the above guard poster makes a point. Guard vehicles can easily cost you 200 pts. a pop. Bringing 9 executioners with plasma sponsons and you've just spent over 2,000 points for just 9 models (and you get 45 plasma cannon shots per turn in return - not all that uncompeditive).

If you're looking for the absolute fewest models, then yeah, you're probably looking at some flavor of space marines.
