Subject: Question about Tyranofex

Searched and didn't see this one anywhere, so sorry if it has been asked before.
Was at the local GW store looking at the new Nid codex and the GW employee was talking to me about the tyranofex (i think that is it's name). He said that it could fire all three of it's weapons at once.
I was under the impression that MCs could only fire two weapons each turn. Am I missing something?

The Tyrannofex has a template attack that can be used in addition to any other weapon attacks. So there is a special rule with the ability that allows it to be used with the other two weapons the Tyrannofex normally comes with.

Yup, you are missing the rules for a Thorax Swarm on Page 80. They can be used in addition to an MC's Normal Weapons.

No, it only applies to the Thorax Swarm.

Speaking of thorax swarm, I have another rules question:
Let's say the T-fex is shooting his rupture cannon and stinger salvo at a tank roughly 17" away. Standing within oh, say, 3" is a squad of infantry. Is the T-fex allowed to target the tank w/ his thorax swarm, which it will miss, but still hit the nearby infantry unit causing hits on them? In this way, is the T-fex allowed to shoot at more than one unit per turn (in a roundabout way), much like gargantuan creatures?
-Tetris
**edit** Furthermore, in the assault phase, which unit(s) can the T-fex assault? Having not targeted the infantry squad i would guess only the tank is eligible, but too far away.

No, and he MUST attempt to assault the tank, but fail. READ THE BGB!!! FAIL.

I just read the BRB in the section detailing templates, and it says the template must cover as many models in the target unit as possible, or as much of the vehicle *as possible*. Simply because I shoot the template from more than 8" away it will miss the target unit. ** edit ** it also says ANY models under the template are hit ** end edit ** The question is, the template does cover enemy models in this scenario, so what rule explicitly prohibits resolving the hits on the infantry squad? Consider it similar to a blast weapon that scatters onto a unit that wasn't the targeted one, even if they are in combat. You still resolve the hits where the blast marker lands.
As for the assaulting, yes you can only assault the unit you actually shot at. (Which if you read my post, i alluded to. No need to be so harsh.)

It must actually hit the target unit. People have thought of this before. doesn't work. Also, the second question was a really bad question.

Bad question or no, it was just a brief curiosity. I see the logic behind the template issue not working, i wanted some input from the folks here who are RAW junkies.

Eh, I find those posters quite entertaining, and at times insightful.
And yes, my doom has a 3++. Sadly, he doesn't suck souls out of transports. We (my gaming group) ruled like the Beasts of War: even if his effect hits the guys in the transport, they are said to automatically pass all Leadership tests because of their unshakable faith in the vehicle. Basically, their three dice always roll 1's as long as they're in METAL BAWKSES! House ruled for now, because of a lack of FAQ.

No, you cannot do that with the Template. Because it is out if range of the Target unit, it "automatically misses", so it wont hit the closest Unit.
And the Doom doesn't have a 3++ save

But nowhere does it say that termagants have "a zoenthrope with this ability has a 3++"
DoM should have a 3++, EVERYBODY plays it with a 3++ (even you), and anybody who doesn't is a jerk for exploiting poorly written rules.

And nowhere does the Doom of Malan'tai have a rule saying "The Doom of Malan'tai has a 3++ save". How everyone plays it (even me) does not change what the rules say.

The doom of Malantai has warp field. That is what gives him the 3+ invulnerable save.
It doesn't say that a zoanthrope has a 3++ either. it just says that they have warp field.

Gwar is correct. The Doom has Warp Field but the description for Warp Field says "A Warp Field grants a Zoanthrope a 3+ invulnerable save." It doesn't say it grants the Doom a 3+ invulnerable save.
And as I've seen him on occasion state: The way the rules are written and how he plays are two seperate things. He's not being mean, he's merely stating that the Rules as Written don't give the Doom the save, but it doesn't mean he's going to argue the point if you play him in a game.
