Hello everyone. Recently after talking to a fellow player at my gaming store he informed that he didnt use game workshop models at a GT tournement and they still allowed him to play. According to him he said the rules were:

-No GW model Parts at all
-100% GW models

Now i have heard several variations of people explaining these rules to me and i just wanted to know what the heck the truth is? I have never attended one but want to in the future so any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Depends a lot on where you live and how much say GW have in your tournaments.

GW are pulling out of tourneys globally - and there are generally enough local sources of prize support that this really shouldn't be an issue anymore.

A couple weeks ago I was talking to a friend of mine who played in a tournament against an IG player.

The IG player had some AMAZING plasticard Chimeras (I could NOT tell the difference until he took the turret off).

While a judge was walking by he noticed what the chimeras were made of while looking at one without a turret or some such thing. The IG player was DQed and had to leave the tournament for not having GW models.

In hindsight the rules posted for the tournament did say all models must be 50% GW minimum.

Rule of thumb seems to be: Check beforehand. I can't imagine a tournament organizer not letting you know if you ask. Most tournaments don't care as long as it's easy to tell what is what on custom models.

Rejoice in furious challenge, and avenging strife, whose works with woe embitter human life!

AdeptiCon has a pretty loose Model Policy these days. The bit about manufacturers reads:

Your army should be primarily constructed of models from the given game system and the appropriate model range(s). Supplementing your army with models from outside the game system is acceptable but should NOT be the norm.

We found that no matter what you said in regards to GW or Forge World models, people still brought Ultraforge, Armorcast and what have you. GW had those requirements because they were the ones running the GTs - makes perfect sense, but independent conventions/events don't necessarily have to adhere to such a rigid format. The above advice is spot on though - always check ahead of time. There isn't any standardization across events these days - things will change from event to event.

Wasn't the GW tournament model requirements mostly about marketing? They like photos of nicely painted armies and it wouldn't do to get accused of using another company's models (or give them free publicity). And ofc it doesn't look good to have a GW event where you can recognize lots of non-GW models on the tables.

The only way to know is to ask the person running the tournament. That is, literally, the only way. The TO can choose to ban all NonGW Models, Ban Pink models or Ban Orks if he wants. His Tournament, his rules.
