Here, obviously

I was talking with some friends about the Blood Angels when it hit me: every Marine codex has been showing them as more or less fighting for Truth, Justice, and the Imperial Way. While it was merely annoying (and somewhat expected) with the Smurfs, the SW and BA codexes are taking it to Character Derailment levels. For example, the entire concept of the Sanguinor, or that titbit Cheese Elemental pointed out where the Blangels teamed up with genocidal robots to fight the 'Nids, and then left.

So what does Dakka think? Are the marines getting too shiny for the GRIMDARK of the far future (where there is only war)?

Yes, but consider how awesome it would be to commit seppuku with a powerfist.

Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. Core has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. Core has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war... becomes routine.

Inboud...

Having not read the up to date codices, I can't make a definite call. However from what I have heard, the marines are becoming far too prissy. They were intended to be warrior-monks, extremely adept warriors who would stop at nothing to purge the Unclean. Under no circumstances would they have tolerated Necron presence. In a situation where it was Marines + 'Nids + Necrons, the total equaled Exterminatus.
Not a friendly cup of tea after the battle, an exchange of numbers and promises to meet up again soon for a proper chat.

Woah what is this about teaming up with Necrons!? If that's the case then I can't believe they would go so far against fluff!

Ugh.

This is painful.

The whole "mehreens' thing?

Overplayed, and not funny.

Maybe this is a 4/1 thing?

Anyway...

Is the fluff in the new BA codex all kinds of messed up?

Sure sounds like it!

BUT!

The 40K universe could use some:

1) Plotline advancement
2) LESS Grimdark

And that's where Tau came in...

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

I think you're right. BA are prissy.

The new BA have units that are so enraged that they cannot control themselves and charge forward mindlessly, ignoring minor wounds and tearing everything to bits. They also have elite characters that make any unit behave in this way.

So basically the whole army is licking it's lips at the thought of punching a hole in your skull so they can stick straw in there...

Very Very Prissy...

Yeah I know, they have wings and its the worst thing since wolves riding wolves blah blah blah.
THEY DRINK BLOOD!!
WHAT"S MORE HARDCORE THAN THAT?!?

...who were hated for being too nice. Let's be honest here, the 40k universe is neither original nor particularly high-brow. What it is full of cynicism, misery and other things you feel when you've just been dumped. Taking that away deprives 40k of one of its three pillars (the other two being "shill models" and "what would happen if Gundams fought Xenomorphs?")
