My question is which would you prefer to take in an all-comers list? Do you think you could get away with leaving one of those units at home and still be able to cover the other's role? Mainly, I am wondering how much would it hurt to leave terradons out of the list. I am liking the idea of an all plastic lizardman army.

Sorry to go off topic already, but what do you think of taking a temple guard and putting gargoyle wings and mounting it to the flying base to use as terradons riders? Or would they look way too small?

I didn't play LM very long, and it was at very low point levels. However, in the games I did play, the terradons were the MVP almost every time!

My only game against lizardmen with wood elves, his cold one calvary turned the tide of the game when they charged in.

I wouldn't leave home without either... if I had to choose to leave out one, it'd be the cold ones- I think their role can be covered by a stegadon. But I don't think terradons can substitute for cold ones, or vice versa... they're just too different, imho.

Terradons can be so handy against things you might not otherwise have a good shot at dealing with. Bombing chaff, redirecting, baiting and fleeing. Too many uses to turn down...

I would never field an army without Terradon Riders, they just aren't replaceable by anything in the army (Skink Skirmishers come close, but they are just not as mobile).

However, there are enough Special Choices available to field both Terradon Riders and Cold One Cavalry. Cold One Cavalry could be replaced by a Stegadon, as RiTides mentioned, though this is really up to personal preference.

That is what I thought. I was just looking for all plastic. The list I was considering really didn't leave me with much room for my special choices and still stay under 2500. I would like to take one of each maybe even 2x terradons with the last choice going to the temple guard.

Cold One Cav aren't plastic? I know they look much better with DE Cold Ones as their mounts, and those are plastic.

Both versions are plastic, although I think boogeyman was referring to the metal terradon models. But the DE ones are sooooo much better...

CoC and Terradons do different things.

CoC are best used in units of five or six on a flank. CoC are sick at breaking combats in your favor. When used right, they can even take on smaller units alone. CoC can be replaced with a lot of things, though. Stegadons and Kroxigor are fine alternatives for just a bit less movement. I usually have a unit of CoC in my lists, they have never let me down. Another good way to run them is with a mounted Scar-Vet that has the Scimitar, it's a beast of a unit.

Terradons have more uses than CoC but can't do what CoC do as well. A unit of four Terradons can work like a unit of CoC but won't always help you win combats consistently. Terradons are great flank harassers and war-machine hunters. I have used a unit of four with a Terradon-Chief with the SotLS before and done a lot of damage. Their special rules are super useful, too. Feigned Flight and the land in wood/jungle rule makes it easy to keep them safe between strikes.

Personally, I use a unit of each in most of my lists. If I had to pick, I would go with the Terradons. They offer a lot more field coverage and can help you keep the enemy where you want/need them.
