I think it looks awesome, and the fact that the developers are actually making sure that the customers are being kept in the loop has made me a customer for life (or at least as long as they keep it up)

whats everyone elses thoughts about it?

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

Can't wait. I loved the original, it had me on the edge of my seat constantly. If the new one can keep up the awesome freak-outs and mindf**ks, I'll be happy.
As long as the fething Hunter doesnt show up again. Bricks were shat the first time I saw him regrow all his limbs and come after me again.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion... but yours is wrong.

I know what you're thinking and it's crazy, slightly gross ... and yet disturbingly arousing.

Meh. Deadspace wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't scary enough. There was no feeling of dread when my pistol killed everything in 2 or 3 well placed shots. It started out feeling a little eerie, but it quickly seemed to turn into a puzzle solving, treasure finding, run n' gun. There weren't really any big "OH **** MY LIFE!" moments at all. Even in the bridge when that big huge cracked-out mutant apedog looking thing busted in, I was like "Ugly, meet pistol." Basically the only parts that had me running for my life were the fights against the Hunter. And then once I grilled him with the shuttle's thrusters it felt like I just killed the only actually scary part of the game.

And then there was just no replayability to it. You beat it and after that it's just replaying the same thing with a few more, harder to drop, enemies. Hopefully they'll do a lot better on it. And I mean a LOT better. If I end up picking it up, it'll be well after it's been thoroughly reviewed and scored by 2 or 3 sites.

I thought it was more scary for the way it messed with your head than anything. I mean the enemies were distrubing looking and it was startling when they leapt out at you, but the main creepouts were times like walking down an empty hallway and hearing distant moans and stuff skittering through the air ducts, but the whole time you don't see anything.
also liked the tense moments like when going through a zero gravity vaccum area and getting jumped by some freaks right when you're almost out of air.

No, THIS is disturbing looking

And my rule for the whole game was the same ruleset I apply to horror movies. And that is "If the monster is lying on the ground, and I/Character didn't shoot it, chances are it's not dead and I/Character should blow it's ****ing head off before stepping over it. The difference between myself and Hollywood characters would be that I'm actually smart enough to do this, and thus probably averted a large amount of the game's "suprises". Those suprises I couldn't avoid were generally ones I saw coming from miles away. Ambient sounds were a nice touch, but I'm not new to video games, and everyone that's grown up with them knows that they're just that - ambient sounds.

I only had one exterior Zero-G encounter. I did have a couple inside the ship, but they were always in large rooms, and when stuff drops down from the ceiling on the opposite side of a huge hangar from where you are, it's not exactly scary. I don't think EA has watched nearly enough horror movies or read even half the required amount of Steven King books to know how to properly build a creepy environment that can be maintained throughout a full game. It started good, but step by step it slowly got weaker, and weaker, and weaker until I was pretty much just forcing myself through the repetative steps of it to see the ending, which I was completely able to call out before he even sat down in the shuttle's pilot seat.

I enjoyed the first game a lot. I thought it must be similar to what the original Alien movie was to people back them. It was the scariest game I ever played andI can't wait for the sequel, though I will try to skip as much info on it as possible. I want to remain spoiler-free.

Visceral had a fantastic idea with their design-your-kill contest on Facebook and I wanted to participate, but I gave up once I saw about a dozend great ideas on the first page alone.

Actually, I found AvP to be scarier than Dead Space. (The first Marine Colony level at least)

Visceral had a special contest running a few weeks back. You had to pitch an idea for a close combat move for Isaac and submit by text, video or pictures. The winner gets his face digitalised in the game and probably mauled by a Necromorph shortly after. You can find more details on the Dead Space 2 Facebook page.

THATS AWESOME! I love how involved Visceral is with its fan base. Makes me feel good to know they respect their fan's opinions and are directly asking us for feedback.

Wrong! Needs more scary parts. There was a real lack of gak-yourself moments in Deadspace. I want them to add more

There were plenty of 'gak yourself' moments in Dead Space, IMO. I loved them! The mindfeth on the last level made me gak bricks.

Here's a little mindblower for you. I don't know how many of you already know this, but if you take the first letter of the first word of each mission name, they spell out the words NICOLE IS DEAD. That's right, all the times she appeared in the game, IT WAS ALL IN ISAACS HEAD

The Nicole thing is a nice touch, but you know she's dead since, um, you know, because she killed herself on screen in that video she sent you.

But that could all be in your head. Maybe in reality she actually escaped, broke up with you over the space-net (making you crazy) and is currently enjoying herself on some remote beach resort.

But Isaac didn't watch the whole thing until the end of the game. He was either nuts from the start or didn't have the whole video.

I liked the original for game-play and story reasons, but the whole "horror" concept of the game was ill conceived at most. Sure the crazy "almost" invulnerable thing was pretty scary, but the rest of the game lacked any shocks or jumps (excluding cut scenes, the last one actually made me jump out of my seat). It was sort of like that one spongebob episode where they "kill" the food inspector and the cops were shouting "DIE ZOMBIE" and hitting him over the head with stuff. I'll rent the new one for fun, not to be scared.

+1 This. Except for the end cutscene. If you would've watched the animated film, you'd have seen it coming too because the same thing happens near the start.

Sure, if you're not a person that really understands what makes good horror, then this game will scare the crap out of you. But for those of us that actively seek a sense of fear when watching a movie or playing a game, Deadspace is about as scary as The Little Barbershop of Horrors or, to put it in a game context, Clive Barker's Jericho, which saw me spending more time laughing at the Emo chick that cuts herself (No really, her special power actually is /wrists. Seriously. Look it up.) than actually being scared.

I think for Deadspace 2, EA needs to kind of re-look at what makes good horror -now-. Deadspace spent too much time -trying- to scare the player with enemy encounters, and not enough time trying to scare you with your own mind. Personally, I'd like to see Deadspace 2 utilize a lot more techniques that will have the player creating their own terrors in their head, rather than just flinging hordes of fleshy WTF beasts at you and saying "There, enjoy your monsters. Now be scared!" while you drop them like lead weights with 1 or 2 good shots from the first weapon you find in the game.

That's another thing I think they -really- need to look at, utterly scrap, and start over on. The weapon balance was not only terrible, but thanks to the super-mega-awesome-overpowered-pwnage-pistol that you find like 10 minutes in, the horror element was completely ruined by the fact that you could drop anything that came at you in 2 well-placed shots. In my opinion, weapons need to be toned down substantially. Or the enemies need to be a lot tougher. I'd be much more afraid if it was a matter of "run the feth away or become monster chow". I'd also like to see the game put more of an emphasis on stealth. When you're having to actively -avoid- encounters by crawling through ducts, knowing full well that another creature could sneak up behind you at any moment while you're trying to avoid a big group of uglies below, beside, or even above you... Now that would do some favors for an ailing game.

Right now it just feels like more of a "Shoot em up" with nasty mutant zombies than a horror-survival game. Hopefully they'll rethink their approach before putting DS2 on the shelves. I'd like to play through it, but only if I know I'm going to be honestly and thoroughly afraid while I'm at it.
