Well, I have chosen to use the forge world sets, bolters and plasma guns plus banner from the chaos space marine tactical squad boxed sets and use 10 possessed legs, what do you think of that? Is it a great combo. Lastly what would be better, painting them a warm sickly green with pale yellow-ish cream guts, or grey like the pre-heresy death guard?

I'd paint the armor in their pre-heresy colors but make it long faded. The internals should be a little pinkish with a sickly yellow skin.

But, do whatever you think looks best.

I saw ones like this that looked great once. The army didn't have the rotten organic armor & vehicles you usually see on plague marines, all the metal was rusted and then the little glimpses of flesh were all moldy or jaundiced.

"Well, isn't the enemy of your enemy, like, your friend? Or whatever? Can't they team up?"
"Not exactly. In this setting, the enemy of your enemy is still a floating, greasy, armored brain."
"Well, what about his enemy? Maybe you could be friends with him."
"No, because that guy is a mechanical horror in an undying battle shell. He sails from world to world in a flying tomb, serving gods who eat hope."

...urrrr... I dunno

I know a guy who went for the pre-heresy colours, and it looked really good. I would recommend it, if only for the coolness.
