How do those heads work as substitutes for Empire or whatever in WHF?

They may be too small to look right, they're more true scale 25mm to GW's heroic 28mm.

They're on par for the standard troops - I was looking at using the Zulu-UK heads for IG. Lots of weapons there for a different look.

I do like the overall theme they have going, and their dynamic posing makes them better.

Not sure how they would work for grouping up into formation.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

iirc Emhar do a longboat but think it is 1/32 and/or 1/72

A couple of the figures on the sprues look like they could be skateboarding!

these figures seem ok to my untrained eye

Hi Guys - thanks!

Revell do a great longboat that is fully compatible. Mick Farnworth has done a 16 page Viking guide for us (painting, modeling, etc) that will be on the site next week. He has built the Revell ship with our figures and even done some conversion to make rowers - they look great. And it's VERY inexpensive too.

I've put together & painted some Wargames factory Celts & Mounted Celts. In general, the figures are decent. Not GW quality, but not GW prices, either. Really, quite good for the price.

I have two issues. First, the open hands/weapons. The hands are not very detailed, and they are wide open, while the weapon shafts/hilts are quite small. You end up with a bunch of guys who look like they are about to drop their swords. ([Edit:] You can see this quite plainly in the picture above. Actually, these Viking weapons have much larger hilts than the Celts, so it doesn't look as odd.)
Second, about half the riders just plain didn't fit on the horses, and since they are using four-horned ancient saddles, and were sculpted with grooves in the rider to fit the horns, the result is that many of your riders have big unsightly grooves in their butts.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Hi fellblade - couple things:

1. The Celts and Celt Cavalry were very early sets of ours - I think you'll find the detail on the most recent sets to be a world of difference

2. Re: fitting riders - did you put the riders onto the saddles and the horses before putting on the horse heads? That's usually the only way people have trouble with them fitting.

The open hand thing is something we wrestle with. We'll never get a perfect-looking open hand - but we struggle with the conversion aspects. The open hands let you put in any type of weapon whereas having an arm with weapon attached limits your ability to customize. It's a real Catch 22 for us. Some sets we are doing closed hands/weapons attached - others we'll keep doing the open hands.

We just did a test to see if we can create an open hand that is tighter - it seems to be working. We'll keep at it!

How are the size wise when compared to Lord of the Rings Minis? Could I use them to replace some Rhorrim?

Just did a search on the viking Longboat by Revell of Germany. It's good and at 1:50 scale would it only be 'slightly larger' than normal when compared to the figures? For $20 bucks on the ship, it'd be great to run around Pillaging all the other minis on the tables , especially w/ a crew of these vikings.

One thing I really like about these Vikings...NO HORNS ON THE HELMETS!!!! Yay! for historical accuracy!

I read on their site they did include one 'Hagar head' become some people expect it but generally they wanted these to be historical Vikings not Hollywood Vikings.

Having the hand on the weapon, joining to the arm at the wrist would be a better option than the open hand, IMO.

Beware yon bunny!!

re the open hand- have noticed a slight problem with my Space Wolves, so can see the dilemma from a production/design POV
Also was wondering if the heads would be a good fit for the SW's as they could be modded nicely

Like some of thepainting on the box figures btw

We did actually include ONE horned helmet on the sprue - but it was designed so you can snip off the horns and use it as a historically accurate one.

Thanks for your comments!
