I can't find anything on this question, so I am going to assume that it hasn't been answered.

A unit of assault marines drops their jump packs and purchases a Drop Pod, do they get to use Descent of Angels?

I'm going to go with yes on the reserve part, but no on the change to the scatter rules. As the drop pod is scattering not the BA unit with decent of angels.

No, it doesn't help at all.

The unit is not arriving via deep strike. It is arriving via a Deep Striking Transport, and they COUNT AS deep striking when they disembark.

Page 95:
"Models arriving via deep strike treat all difficult terrain as dangerous terrain.

In the Movement phase in which they arrive, these units may not move any further, other than to disembark from a deep striking transport vehicle."

'These units' in that paragraph refers back to the aforementioned 'models arriving via deep strike'. Models deep striking in a transport are arriving by deep strike.

And this is where semantics kicks in in my opinion.

While the unit is arriving by Deep Strike, they are not the ones actually Deep Striking. If so, you can argue that a unit without the Deep Strike rule cannot Deep Strike inside a Deep Striking Transport, as they cannot ever Deep Strike as they Dont have the Deep Strike rule.

While we are on semantics, the BA dex says a model arriving by deep strike not a model deep striking or using the deep strike special rule.

The pod is deep striking, but the assault marines are arriving by deep strike.
