Hey people,
I m just wondering about stegadons,they count as strength 10 unit,or 10 units strong
But does it mean they count as 10 ranks?
Don't have the rule book with me
Thanks to all who came

in order to have ranks you actually have to have ranks. A stegadon is a single model with a Unit Strength of 10 which affects things like panic, outnumber and missile targeting if it can join units (only if its a mount, and im not actually 100% about stegs anyhow).

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help. But we can raise awareness.... 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste |

Leith is correct. The stegadon is Unit Strength 10. Examples of why it is necessary to know this is it determines who outnumbers whom in combat, if you receive the flank or rear bonus (and negate ranks when doing so), whether you would panic other units, or if enemies are wiped out by fleeing through you.

So if I win an enemy by charging its front, lets say by 2,and they have 2 ranks,no banner, then I win by 10?

Unit strength is only used for outnumbering, which is a 1 point difference. So, if you win combat by 2 against that chaos squad, because each chaos warrior has a unit strength of 1, if they have more than 10 models left, you would lose by one because they outnumber you (have a unit strength higher than yours total).
If you brought them down to nine, then you would win combat by 1.
COMBAT RES
Chaos: 3
2 ranks
Outnumber
Stegadon: 2
2 wounds
Ranks only count each full rank of models. You have one stegadon, so you can only ever have one rank.

ok so you deal 2 wounds
Lets say they dont deal any.
You are outnumbered (their US>your US)+1 for them
They have 1 additional rank (would be 2 but you caused 2 wounds, so the last rank isnt "full" +1
you dealt 2 wounds+2 for you.
Combat is a draw.
Think i did this right, someone correct me if i didnt.

Correct. And to get that rank bonus, each subsequent rank must contain at least 5 models. If you have 5 models in front rank, 5 models in the second rank, and 4 models in the third, you only get a rank bonus of 1.

Would be hillarious until one round of shooting+magic broke the entire line and 2/3 of your army flees off the table cause you "ran" through them.

@Shivan:
Rank bonuses are calculated at the start of combat. So he would still have a bonus of two ranks in that round, but not in any additional rounds. So Tony would lose by 1.

I questioned myself for about 5 minutes then went with one... stupid 50/50 guesses!
