Black Templar Recruit Undergoing Surgeries

Im a new-ish High Elves player (4 games; 3 Wins 1 Loss). Im considering buying a box of Wood Elf Glade Guard to proxy/convert to Shadow Warriors.
I usually play friendly matches so I'd ask every game if the converted models are alright. But what I ask of you, DakkaDakka lurker, is if Shadow Warriors are an effective unit, or should I invest in another unit altogether (Such as a Chariot).

Even in a GW tournament you should be fine, as the Glade Guard are offical GW products.
As far as the actually usefulness of Shadow Warriors, I'll leave that up to the HE players.

Shadow Warriors are certainly useful, I don't know if they'd be considered one of the most useful units in the book compared to others... and that would also depend on your list.
If you like the concept, I'd go for them regardless, they can be a very cool unit to build an army background around . And the glade guard with covered mouths are perfect for shadow warrior conversions! You should have absolutely no problem using them in any setting. I believe this is a common conversion, because it's such a great fit .

You rang?
They're not totally without worth, but certainly are superseded in use/cost effectiveness by Great Eagles.
Incidentally, I _have_ used them to decent effect, but ultimately they are a bit over-priced for what they can do (imo). Having said that, if you're keen on using them, by all means, go for it. BS4 scouts aren't terrible, and having ASF helps them out a bit as well. Just don't expect them to be huge momentum changers.

I'd consider trading BS5 to BS4 and ASF on my Shades... wouldn't help their shooting, but I also like using those Great Weapons and sometimes there's a round 2 of combat.

@Kirbinator - I really don't understand why an elite unit of scouts have the same BS as rank and file archers. It doesn't _quite_ make sense. Wish they had access to additional hand weapons as well. At least that would help SW's be a bit more effective in protracted combats.
Though to be fair, a lone Shadow-walker of mine did once manage to tie up a unit of Dark Riders in HtH combat once.

Yeah, they really should be BS5 - but there are so many "should haves" in the HE army....

I think it's along the lines of their shooting is not the elite aspect, it's their ability to be sneaky. I haven't really read into high elf regimental fluff, though. I wonder if Shades cost more.

Shades and Shadow Warriors are the same points.
Differences - SW's have longbows instead of RxB's and have light armor and ASF. Nagarythe Hatred balances out Shades' Eternal Hatred. Shades have +1BS and access to Great Weapons and additional handweapons, as well as light armor for only an extra point/model. Both are skirmishing scouts.
Scouting rather eliminates the range advantage of the long bows and the BS5 on the shades mitigates the -1 to multi-shotting with the RXBs.

Hm, so seems like Shades are the better of the two. Similar range, multishot, armor piercing ranged weaponry and access to great weapons. Sorry High Elves, don't know what to tell you.

Everything HE can do, DE do better.
And cheaper, usually. Have a look at the missile troops comparison for a start!
