Subject: Necron 1000, 1500, 2K lists

First post.
I'm relativly new to necrons though i've been playing 40K for a few years.
At the moment my thousand point is sitting on
Destroyer Lord 210
3 Heavy Destrovers 195
Monolith 235
20 Warriors 360
For 1500 i'll add in
Foot lord 155
3 Heavy destroyers 195
8 Warriors 144
And for 2K i'll add
10 Destroyers 500
Thoughts? Although i'd appriciate it if no-one rants for 500+ words about why to take destroyers instead of Heavy Destroyers, i've got both and i'll change the lower points lists the Heavy Destroyers arn't working.

Ive not played as necrons in this edition, but Ive played against them plenty, so take this for what it is worth- a viewpoint from an opponent. I think I could beat this list silly.
1000 pts.
The Phase out for this list is 18 iirc. A couple of high AP shots, a template or two, and you've phased. Ive never really worried about necrons not near a res orb. The monolith is a nice touch, but I dont think this list has enough survivability. I would drop the destroyer body on the lord, give him veil of darkness and a res orb, and maybe downgrade the heavy destroyers to destroyers to get some scarab swarms to aggravate people, and shield my warriors from charges.

I maintain my comments on the base list, but other than the extra lord, I am in complete agreement with these additions. I dont think you need the extra lord, and he is a big expenditure at this point level.
2k
I disagree with this addition- I would go C'tan and another monolith. It's just a build I see working well in my local metagame. Just too many armies with high AP weapons everywhere.

Sorry this was stupid of me, i should of explained in my origonal post that this list is designed to be fun rather than to win every game i play.
The Destroyer Lord's there because i want to field one, if i'm playing a scary shooty list he'll stay back and cover the warriors in 1k.
I'm also not comvinced it's possible to field Necrons in 1000pts with a high phase out since Lord + 20 warriors + Monolith = 750ish points
I don't think i've ever seen c'tan proove their 300+ point cost. Not that i'm saying they can't i'm just not convinced.
A second monolith would be nice, definatly will consider dropping the Heavy Destroyers for another one and some scarabs.
The second lords there to give resorb cover in higher points games.
The reason i decided to start Necrons is that you win entirly through playing them well, the list is secondary. A list that seems bad on paper can be used to devestating effect in game if its played well.

I disagree, Necrons are so bad you need to squeeze every drop of power you can from them or you'll lose. In melee they might as well be Tau, their Gauss weapons have gotten far worse in this edition, and I think any decently built list at any of the three points levels will stomp your list.

I've seen plenty of well built lists get beaten by Necrons.
The point i was trying to make (although i definatly could have worded it better) is that you have to play Necrons well to win since they have much less variaty compared to other codexes, and they have nothing that would be considered "game winning cheese" such as Nob Bikers and Lash Princes.
Gauss has gotten worse in 5th ed and they do suck in combat, although to say they "might as well be tau" is an overstatment. Necrons have surviveability in combat that tau lack and they get to teleport out of it after one round, couple that with cover and a gaze of flame and they're suddenly not as tempting to charge as they once were.
Necrons may not be a combat army but they do very well up close.

I would reconsider the Destroyer Spam myself and also invest in a C'Tan. Destroyers are nice but in Close combat they are just a 5 man(max.)Immortal squad that costs twice as much.

You do make a valid point about them having the ability in the right hands to beat a 'better' list I think that you need to maximize their strengths as well.
Necron aren't a CC army, and if I can make you break and cut you down then I win. My 1,000 point dread spam list would have a good chance against the first list you posted for your thousand points. My Autocannons have a good chance of knocking down all three heavy destroyers the first time I choose to fire at them while my MM/HF dreads now plod up virtually untouchable and try to get two or three dreads into an assault against your warriors.
Do you have a chance to go first kill an AC dread and stun lock a few more? Of course. will that happen on average? No. Would I fear a list that has a C'tan that can eat my dreads in CC more than a list that relies on shooting to kill them? Yes.
