Well here is my first Grey Hunter of many more that needs to be done..about 95% done id say. Gotta paint the rim on the base, eyes and maybe a few touch ups here and there. Eventually will add the shoulder insignia's.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Nice work! glad to see another Space Wolf player!
Although I would suggest a wash on the hair and stuff, give him a more dirty look.
Awesome!

Kudos to you for choosing not to paint their hair bright flaming orange. I hate how that looks. :( They're old men anyways. Why should they have bright hair?

Anyways, he looks very clean. I'm sure a group of these guys looks spectacular. :3 If you want to take it to the next level, I would suggest bringing out the values in the armor, skin, and weapons a bit more. Other than that, he's great.

Thanks ! Yeh the bright orange hair is a negatory for me. Maybe for Blood Claws its okay but certainly not for Grey Hunter. If you can describe to me how I would go about bringing out the values of the character I would appreciate it??

You basically do what you did so well on the little fur crotchflap there. People usually use washes, but I'm a big fan of drybrushing myself. Being a Nid player, I don't have much of a choice, eh? XD

On your next model, basecoat with the darkest color (the shadow), then drybrush the middle color over the top of that. Cover everything but the parts that should be in shadow, then drybrush a lighter color over the top of that.
Don't pick a shadow and highlight that's too far away from your middle color, but don't be afraid of it being too dark or light. If the colors aren't that far away from each other, there won't be much contrast.

The other way to do it is using a wash (which I've actually never really "officially" done?). But you basically paint your model the middle color from above, brush some wash over the top of it, and highlight if you desire. Not complicated, and from what I hear, it's pretty quick.
The closest thing I've come to a wash is mixing some Graveyard Earth with some water on my brush, and brushing it over my Gaunts like a wash. XD Good enough for a swarm, imo.

Lookin' good, but you could handle to have a bit more contrast in the model. I'd hit up the wolf skulls and teeth on the bolt pistol with a Devlan Mud wash, just to give them some brown and make them look like bone. Painting them Bleached Bone would work too, but I just love washes. I'd also paint the little band on his topknot red or black to give it some more contrast. Other than that he's looking pretty good.

Thanks for all the tips ! Keep them comin !

Lookin through the codex and such I think I will add some red to the chainsword somewhere, or maybe that broze gold color, idk yet.

I'm experimenting with other models and then applying what I really like to the others, (like in this pic).

I've got some darker ones, It just didn't appeal to me to be honest. I know they are brawlers and dirty and all that but I like a clean model, i'm simply just not happy with a sloppy paint job..(not saying im real neat or whatever, just dont like sloppy)

Definatly Kudos on not painting his hair ginger, it's always nice to see that

to make the hair less flat, try putting a black wash on to give it a bit of depth. Other than that it looks great !

First off: Nicely done so far. It's a very smooth and clean paint job I think.

That said, and it might just be the picture, but the flat white on the hair really draws my eye. Anytime you paint something white without some kind of shading it always seems like you just forgot to paint it after it was primed.

I've only tried doing white hair a couple times but my method was to paint it a light gray and drybrush up to a lighter gray and finally white. Your mileage may vary but it worked alright for me.

Nice work!
A very cold feel indeed.
Personally I like my Grey Hunters to have boltguns, leaving the CS BP combo to the Blood Claws. But either way is good.
Looking forward to seeing more of this army.
