Hi folks. I had a situation come up during a game last week that I was hoping to get some clarification on.

I had a Tactical Squad in combat with a squad of Plague Marines. During my opponents turn my opponents Obliterators (top right) fired their Plasma Cannons at one of my Tactical Squads (bottom left) behind the combat, one of which deviated 11" onto the assaulting units, as you can see in the image below. We had a good laugh about the situation, and I started to remove two models when I noticed that 50% of the unit was, technically, being covered by the two Plague Marines that they were in assault with.

My question is; would I receive a cover save in this situation? We discussed it for a few moments and decided that I wouldn't receive any saves, but looking back I think I should have. Thoughts?

Nothing states you cannot recieve a cover save from shooting while in close combat, you just cannot recieve one from close combat attacks.

Yeah you should get a cover save, I was just wondering how did the shot deviate 11"? BS4 means max deviation is 8".

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com

fair enough I was thinking maybe there was some rule I'd missed or something
