Hey all,

ive got a game coming up against 2000pts of vampires using my lizardmen
im quite new to WFB and arent the best at writing kick ass lists
all i know about my apponent is that hes more than likely to have 4 vampires and a black coach with many zombies

in my collection i have 2 steggadons,
a skink priest and chief,
a slann mage,
a scar veteren,
40 sauraus warriors with spears,
18 cold one cavalry,
10 temple guard and
30 skink skirmishers with blowpipes

if any one has any ideas for lists using the above that would be goos against vamps i would be very greatfull.

i currently field one that is loosely this

slann mage lore of life 4 disciplins

skink priest on ancient stegadon

skink cheif on stegadon

37 saurus warriors in 2 units with spears

30 skink skirmishers in 2 units

not sure if this will be any goo against vamps from what ive heard there nasty!!!!!

The EoTG is pretty nasty, just move it right on up and start using the burning alignment, I'm talking move up at his Vampires, (mainly his lord) and just burn, baby burn!

Magic defense is key against VC, as they don't really have much else other than dice spamming their two good spells. So Slaan with becalming cogitation, a lvl 2 with EoTG, and a priest with diadem of power. So that is 7 dispel dice, with 9 being possible if you store 2 power dice. Add in a scroll and you have a great magic defense.

Taking the Plaque of Dominion and the Becalming Cogitation Discipline are also good options. I would also suggest the Cube of Darkness, you can potentially deny the enemy an entire magic phase (and it still counts as a Dispel Scroll, too!). You are for sure going to want one EotG. Also, Lore of Life might not be the best option. Shadow for Pit of Shades on their low-ish I might work better.

ah some good ideas im liking the high maghic defense opption and pit of shades against the large blocks of zombies does sound nice
yeah i think there was always going to be an EoTG in there just for the 2 d6 s 5 redial damage
hmm the vamps are starting to look a bit less nasty

any suggestions on the black coach i watched that and a block of zombies rip throguh a unit of 8 chaos knights on tuesday

Does the Black Coach count as a chariot/have something pulling it. Lore of Beasts could help you there and with the kinghts.

yeah it is pulled by horses i believe but, other than lore of heavans for the skink i can only have one lore of magic .
so im not sure weather to go with beasts and stop the coach or shadows and use pit of shades to eat through the zombies i think ill need to kill them fast he has some guy that raises them on a roll of a 2 i believe

I think that it would be preferable to go with law of darkness, combined with a good magic defence, will mean you will drop zombies faster than he can raise them and start to pick on his other more important units (Grave Guard anyone?) with low I such as skeletons w/ characters in them, Black Coaches steeds have low I anyway so good luck

I totally missed that you don't have a Slann. A Slann is going to be a great investment, especially if you want heavy magic (and just in general). With just Priests you are going to want at least one EotG if not two, total cheese but you are fighting VC... The Curse Charm and SotMP are also good anti-magic items.

Take the drum of always marching on the EOTG skink priest , then launch yourself into the centre of his line.

The saurus units, I'd split them into 3 units of 12 each, 6 wide.

If he has a hammer black knight/blood dragon unit, it won't matter how big it is. Vs everything else in the VC list you'll thrash it on attacks.

4 powers is too many. Focus on 3, all magic related, soul of stone to reduce effects of miscast, becalming cogination, just to annoy him and his spam casting, and the one that gives you the extra d6 to add to your casting.

Cupped hands and Plaque of Dominion are good. If you miscast, drop it on one of the vampires, and any vampire within 18' tests for stupidity each turn.

If he puts two or more vamps in a unit, that can be big trouble for him.

In ur gaem, killin ur doodz.

The number one hint everyone is missing here is this:

Find that General, Chase him down, and beat him to death with your fists. Destroy him, kill him as quickly as possible, and be relentless about it. As soon as the Vamp Dies, the army starts crumbling. If you can get him before turn 3 is over, your opponent is all but stuck.

Also, while magical defense is nice, the best way to defend against oppressive magic is to kill the guy casting it. The better your opponent, the harder it will be to get into combat with these guys.

Adopt a plan that kicks your opponent in the groin as hard and as many times as possible. Bring only enough defense to last you until a split second before the first groin kick, and use the rest of your army to leverage into kicking your opponent while he's down.

Yeah, flaming attacks preferably against vampires, as they have regen AND an armour save AND a ward save(most likely)...its nasty.

cheers for the hints guys, i ended up going for the high magic defense list with a slann, a skink priest on engine of the gods and another one in a unit of skirmisheres plus a block of temple guard to protect the slann and 2 large units of saurus with spears.

as thought he did turn up with 4 vampires but instead of the black coach he had 2 corpse carts and a unit of vampire knights whitch basically ate my army the cube was handy for the one turn i could use it but with all my spells being - 2 to my casting roll i wasnt getting many off.
the engine was doing ok untill mass amounts of undead and 2 vamps punched it in the chops and it died the temple guard got decimated by the knights and the slann followed in there footsteps.

in short it was a complete masacre. the magic defense did help but with those corpsecarts my magic wasnt fairing any better so it was kind of mute.

i think next time ill take out the slann and the temple guard and one of the preists
and in there place throw in a old blood on a carnosaur and a couple of units of cold one riders and charge headlong into the vamps like ragnar4 has suggested

thanks any way guys.

I'm a vamp player and my friend plays lizzards. These are the thing I hate.

Take the ability to do double damage to one char, and pick his lord/general.
Take fire, and do firewall on the unit with the lord
Take the ability to transfer miscasts to someone else, and get a good miscast and give it to his general. If he is set to take double wounds this counts.
If he is going casty with the lord take the thing that make all 6s go away.

Avoid the zombies, they are just a tarpit, they are not worth killing or messing with.

Kill a unit completely, if you don't he'll just heal it up.

Engine of the Gods with the AOE nuke is really powerful agist undead.

If you have a way to make a str 7 attack it will nuke the chariot. I think you can have a lizard that can get an item that lets him fly 20" and have a str 7 attack. A real nice Black coach killer.

Your skinks are also nice high toughness killers.
