So I've resigned myself to the fact that I have to do SOMETHING to secure the leg-joints of the Defiler to the body. Superglue is certainly an option, but I was wondering what thoughts were on magnetizing the joints? Seems like you could cut off the ball portion of the plastic and replace it with a steel bearing of roughly the same size to maintain posability. Could also do two magnets I suppose but I imagine you'd be more or less stuck with your leg positions, although the joint would be pretty darn strong that way.

Or should I just glue the stupid things?

I didn't realize how cheap the rare earth magnets actually were (Or how strong!!) and I'm chomping at the bit to use 'em. Definitely going to magnetize the arms and base/body.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

It works to magnetize the joints, I did it with my defiler. You need to use 2 pins per joint aswell to keep the legs from rotating around.
I drilled/glued 2 pins in two corner diagonally too each other and used the magnet in the middle. Maybe the magnet is not needed, but the legs stick better.
By doing this I can transport the defiler in a 4" tray.

I originally left all my legs loose on my first defiler. I have since added two more and I glued all the legs in place. They were just too fiddly to mess with.

Magnetizing the legs could work but it seems like it would be a bit tricky to get them posed right.

For my first Defiler, I glued the back four legs in place and rigged up some magnets for the two CCW arms (the big crab claws). This way, if it does manage to lose them, I can remove them easily enough.

For my second defiler, I didn't use the big CCW arms up front, replacing them with two of the smaller normal legs. I glued all six in place.

I wanted to hit a spot somewhere between stability and transportability.
