so here is the question since the sanguinary priest has the blood chalice that has a 6 Aoe effect to all friendly units but since he is an independent character if he were to join a squad would the AoE effect originate off of the unit or just the model itself. any help is appreciated.

It is only from the model itself.

If he is inside of a transport, you measure anywhere from the hull.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

Can you explain why you feel it is a bit different?

It's not different, you measure from the model with the blood chalice, not the unit he's in, in both cases.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"...

well I'm thinking that I would have to give the rules another read but doesn't a chapter banner go off of the squad I don't see how this would be different

No, with the banners you measure from the banner bearer, not the unit he's in.

You measure from the model holding the wargear in question.

And for the love of all that is holy, please use punctuation.

Thats what I was trying to get at. But sometimes hearing why someone feels something is different makes it easier to tell them hoow/why it actually isnt

Flame War Engage!

Does the Sanguinary priest grant Feel No Pain to units embarked within nearby transports? (Useful if, say, it explodes and they fail an armor save or some such nonsense, or roll a 'gets hot!' result etc)

Discuss.

Of course it works just like the Doom of Malan'tai's spirit leech which we already know works on embarked units so i see no reason why this wouldn't?

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com

No Need for a Flame War. It does work.

Heck, even the Priest Can be Embarked as well.

So if you have:
R= Rhino

RRRR_______RRRR
RRRR_______RRRR
RRRR---5"----RRRR
RRRR_______RRRR
RRRR_______RRRR

If the priest is in the Left Rhino and the Right one Explodes, the unit gets FnP

I know the INAT ruled that the Doom hits guys in transports but GW is yet to release an 'official' faq. My gaming circle plays the opposite; the effect will ignore cover but also not touch men in transports. I don't see the sanguinary priest helping the occupants of transports being nearly as controversial because the impact is far less than the doom's.

In all honesty the above question was just a snarky comment because of the recent 'ambiguity' of codex rules for 40k. My FLGS owner was telling me that there were never as many rules questions for each new codex until GW changed how they playtested their 'dexes.

If one works so must the other, you can't have it both ways.

Good point; I'll bring that up if any blood angels players decide their transported men get FnP when i spod the DoM right next to their fast rhinos. (which, admittedly, will zoom away on the following turn and blast poor doomie to pieces).

Wait? Whaa? I thought... Did it say in the codex that sanguinary priests were independent characters? Because I thought that you could put up to three of them in a squad... Well if they are that's awesome!

EDIT:
Wait nevermind, I got it. But when you take three of them are they all still independent?

It's in the codex how it works. Page 87. Yes, they are IC's because they have the IC rule.

Ah that is what I get for not reading the fine print. And yes they are still ICs, nothing states they lose it.
