So i have been coming up against this issue recently with the Plague Furnace.

If i recall correctly the Furnace may make its wrecker attack against one unit in its frontal arc at the end of combat for an artillery dice worth of attacks randomized as shooting.

Most player i have come across seem to accept that it is only randomized against the unit in the frontal arc as opposed to randomizing between the unit in the frontal arc and with the unit pushing the furnace as well.

I tend to agree with this sentiment, as the wrecker would be plowing through the rear ranks of the the enemy unit but what might make sense to me may not to others. However, i do not have that particular rule book handy so my memory may be off.

Thoughts?

Actually, in my Army book at least it makes no mention of "randomizing" hits-instead, it says "Distributed as per shooting". I think you may be reading it wrong.

Distributed as per shooting means you do it in the same way as impact hits - it ONLY hits the enemy unit, and CANNOT affect characters / champions unless there are less than 5RnF in the unit.

I actually agree with both of you that it would not affect the furnaces unit and appreciate the responses. Was curious if anyone had actually found players arguing the other way. Apologies stating my point in such an odd manner.

I guess the stomping i gave a friend of mine a couple days of go lead me down a train of thought today (away from the rule books) that perhaps the furnace should exhibit the common skaven tendency to kill as many of its own units as of the enemies, specifically with the wrecker attack. But as you say the rules are pretty clear.

To paint more of a picture of what happened, the game was tomb kings vs skaven. I rang a 17 on the screaming bell and the furnace surged forward to charge a 30 block of skeletons. Forgetting to role for the enshrouded by fog and the use of the wrecker in this combat, i still managed 22 wounds.... quite a sobering moment for my friend!

the Plague furnace *already* kills off the unit - with the toughness tests in combat.
