So I played my first game against the new Blood Angels today, and got massacred, which wasn't a big surprise, given that they're a new codex and all that. What I DID find awfully annoying was the fact that my enemy could DS in a unit of Vanguard Veterans with lightning claws and massacre my Crusader Squad consisting of 10 marines, 10 scouts and a Master of Sanctity. That, combined with Dante together with 5 Sang guards DSing and infernus pistoling my armoured support to smithereens basically made me lose the entire game. Since I can't take inquisitors, how do I defend myself against deep striking units, and Blood Angels in particular? For that matter, how the am I supposed to kill off Dante?

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT!

1: IIRC, deep-striking units have to bunch up really close together once they land (assuming no drop pod is used), so blast templates from plasma cannons or heavy support could have lots potential carnage going on there. As with most games vs SM, plasma cannons are very, very good heavy weapons to use, assuming they are not running much mech.

2: As with most fights against powerful Special Characters, your best bet would be to use a Special Character of your own along the same levels of power, or, I've seen him killed by an squad of 10 with a Power Fist. Heck, you could even use a multi-melta to instant-death Dante, since he does not have eternal warrior. Also, the SG means that based on your points limit, your buddy won't be fielding much else, and you can potentially ruin his army if you kill them on the deep strike, using powerhouses like a dreadnought. Even terminators, either assault or tactical, could ruin them, with the same save, and invulnerable save and their power fists, thunder hammers and lightning claws. Send tactical termies, shoot their stormbolters, and since they are Assault 2, charge them. That could potentially wipe out a SG unit from full strength easily.

Special characters can be quite intimidating, but just think of Dante as a fancy SG and you'll be fine.

I've seen Abaddon taken down by 3 Black Templar marines and one with a power fist. It can happen.

And that is why you hear people yelling FOR THE EMPEROR rather than FOR LOGICAL AND QUANTIFIABLE BASED DECISIONS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE MAJORITY!
