Subject: 2,000 Point Imperial Guard List

About 2 years ago I first started collecting Imperial Guard and posted my first 1,000 pt list here. Alas, other projects got in the way and by the time I had even assembled my troops the new book was out and I put them on the back burner till all the tanks were released.
Well after playing with an IG force at Adepticon I am ready to restart this project (helps that I now have 40+ dudes painted now) and wanted some feedback on my preferred list. I don't really want to run a full Mech list and like having some ground pounders for holding objectives in my deployment zone, for protecting my tanks from deep-strikers/outflankers, and for blobbing if the need arises.
With that in mind, here is my hybrid Mech IG force at 2,000 points:
1 CCS 90
4 Meltaguns
1 Chimera 55
ML/HF
1 Psyker Battle Squad 110
1 Overseer, 9 Psykers
1 Chimera 55
ML/HB
1 Platoon Command Squad 50
4 Flamers
1 Infantry Squad 65
Autocannon, Grenade Launcher
1 Commissar 30
1 Infantry Squad 65
Autocannon, Grenade Launcher
1 Infantry Squad 65
Autocannon, Grenade Launcher
1 Veteran Squad 110
Autocannon, 3 Meltaguns
1 Chimera 55
ML/HF
1 Veteran Squad 110
Autocannon, 3 Meltaguns
1 Chimera 55
ML/HF
1 Veteran Squad 110
Autocannon, 3 Meltaguns
1 Chimera 55
ML/HF
1 Leman Russ Executioner 230
Heavy Bolter, Plasma Sponsons
1 Manticore 160
2 Medusa Battery 270
1 Vendetta 130
1 Vendetta 130
Total: 2,000 pts.
11 vehicles, lots of Autocannons, some Vendettas, manticores and medusas for long range AT, and plenty of Meltaguns for when they get close.
What do you think?

Very competitive. You could drop the executioner to a naked demolisher, and buy a SWS to ride in the second vendetta, but it's a matter of personal preference. I know a lot of people worship the executioner - seems to me that 230 points is pretty expensive - there are loads of deep striking meltaguns etc that could take it off the board as quick as a 150-pt LRBT.

Thanks for the input. I have thought about sqeezing in a SWS which, along with the PCS, could make both vens scoring. I may still do that. I like the demolisher and I'll magnetize the tank so I can field it, but the range of the executioner is really nice. I'll have to watch out for ds'ing meltas, but that's part of the reason for the line squads.

I play mech guard so I wont go too much into style as we differ a bit but...
Heavy bolters are no good on executioners. Current wound allocation rules, heavy bolters can actually save terminators and other targets you shoot at. Run with a HF, that way if you get down to a only a hull weapon, you have a very big horde killing machine with 11 rear armor.
Just something to think about.

Good suggestion. I'll magnetize the hull weapon as well.

You will kick people straight in the nuts with that list, Ozzy.
My suggestions:
Put a las cannon on the executioner, as then you can drop vehicles and add wounds to heavy infantry. Or, go with the flamer as archite666 suggests.
My opinion is that medsuas are not worth it. AV12 open topped means those things are getting waxed fast. They need to be closed topped as otherwise you are trying to hide them, and a manticore on a tournament board with probably not much LOS blocking terrain.
I like the autocannons on the melta vets as then they can sit back and shoot.
The CCS is best used, at least IMO, sitting next tot the blob squad giving them orders. You have a million meltas already, I like to give them a L.Cannon and sit them in a chimera where they can give orders to the infantry squads which make a HUGE difference.
Also, a commissar is 35 points.
Lastly, I would suggest switching one Medusa for a Hellhound. Hellhounds are flipping awesome for crowd control, fast for taking objectives and can stack wounds on units in cover. I just don't like the AV12 open topped vehicles in a squadron as one long fang pack can pretty easily destroy them both, all you need to roll is two pens and two 3's and they both die. Not hard to do at all.
Other than that, maybe an Astropath for when you go second and outflank the Vendettas.
But in all, that is a solid list, you will just be very first turn dependent against other shooty armies or fast assault armies.
Now get it put together and come play in some GT's, buddy!

Thanks for the advice and oops on the Commissar.
Of everything, the medusas, I'm the most uneasy about. Two S10, AP2 blasts are simply awesome but I'm not too sure about their survival. If I drop them I'll need to pick up the long-range AT slack somewhere else so I'll need to think about that. I'll try proxying them, hopefully the mass of tanks makes them more survivable. I also might drop them for some Hydras or griffons and take a sws squad with meltas or flamers to ride in a Vendetta.

Yeah, I agree. I think you would be better served with another AV14 tank in that slot, or with some Hydras or Griffons. Griffons are nice because with their low profile they are super easy to hide behind Chimeras. They can typically get a 3+ cover is they are in cover, which makes them so much more survivable. Plus, three of them is cheaper than two Medusas. 3 strength 6, indirect blasts with rerolls to hit, that is money in the bank. Since indirect ordnance hits side armor, they will be able to pop tanks pretty consistently.
My SWS with 3 flamers was clutch in the Vendetta. That little squad is super useful.

Uhm...people....MEDUSA's are awesome. I think you don't really gain anything from having them squadded up though, as 1 bastion breacher shot should be more than enough to toast whatever it is shooting at, and the Manticore is just gravy. 1 Medusa is plenty.
Also, the executioner with plasma really is versatile, since the S7 lets it act like a heavy 5 autocannon against light vehicles as well. Just ask my Khornezilla's majority AV12. Polonius used two executioners to take me apart.
Also, you need to add in some lascannons and plasmas on your line squads. Bring it Down on plasma's makes them very nasty.
I'd say nay on the autocannons in the vet squads, but that's only because I like to be really agressive with them. Especially in this list, where you have troops to spare, you can afford to have them moving in their chimera every turn.
