Hi everybody. I'm a newbie.

Anyway, my questions come from having looked at regular ol' Vets, and the various types of Infantryman that can be placed in a platoon.
The first question is whether or not regular Infantry Squads such as Infantry, Special Weapons and Heavy Weapons Teams can use the
Vet Doctrine of Grenadiers at the cost cited for Veterans(30 pts, Carapace)
This is important in how I set up my models.

Secondly, I'm a touch confused on the compulsory and optional listings. The Compulsory Choices are just that--roj, got it, trackin'.
It's the Optionals that have me scratching my head; are they added to, or a maximum value period, of your choices?
The difference being 1 HQ, 4 Troops, 3 FA and 3 HS versus 2 HQ, 6 Troops, 3 FA and 3 HS.

And for a third question, can HW Teams and SW Teams take Dedicated Transports or do I have to have these guys load up during reserves?

Thanks for helping a newbie out, guys.

A given unit only have access to the upgrades specifically mentioned in their armylist entry. You cannot choose options from another entry.

The second one is correct, along with the 3 Elite choices you forgot.

EDIT. By which I mean, these are the total number and nature of choices you can include in your army (multiple detachments aside, but lets get the basics straight first).

See the first answer. No HW Teams and SW Teams do not have access to a dedicated transport. They have to borrow some one elses (which they of course cannot start the game embarked in).

Hmm, that hurts. IIRC the old Guard 'dex allowed Carapace, but at a rediculously large points cost. Then again, they also had Bionics.

Where on the FOC do Vets fall in? their own Troops Choice, or...?

As clearly shown in the armylist, Veterans are a separate Troop choice.

Infantry Platoons are another separate Troops choice, that can include a number of different units (Platoon Command Squad, Infantry Squad, Heavy Weapons Team, Special Weapons Team and Conscripts).

Also, I'm going to point out that those heavy weapon/special weapon squads cannot embark in someone else's dedicated transport while in Reserves. They have to spend their first turn on the table getting in.

The only time that regular Guardsmen have had access to carapace was in the 4ed when there were doctrines.

They replaced this with orders and more options and made Hardened Vets. a Troops choice.
Hope it helps!

(PS) Were you planning on modeling he carapace or something?

Good to be back!
