All the psychic powers are pretty bleh for the inquisitor.. Some are okay, but almost double his base cost

Basically if you want a decent lord, id run a psychic hood, 2 mystics + veterans with melta guns.. Gives him an actual purpose in life other than just having mystics

You could also equip him to be at least competent in close combat. Give him a power weapon, bolt pistol and power armour, then add frag grenades and two followers, i.e. servo skulls - 44 points of upgrades, but now he ignores armour saves, has five attacks on the charge at initiative SIX (That's Eldar Exarch style!) and a decent armour save. Add an invuln or more retinue for advances protection.

This way he can't be overrun by just about anything in CC anymore and might even be useful as a small assault unit.

Initiative bonus can only be gained once and he's only S3 but If he's facing Eldar then they're in trouble.

There's a few effective ways of running him, these are basically:

Target hunter-Him, 3 warriors +3 ocolytes him and ocolytes with combi-weapons, warriors with special weapons
Combat-Him with combat weapon, 3 combat veterans/servitors, 2-3 ocolytes with PW's and 0-1 familiars
Shooting- Him with psycannon, 3 ranged servitors, 0-3 familiars (shot soakers), 0-2 sages (BS boost/re-roll), 0-3 ocolytes with artificer armour (if you want to absorb shots effectively)

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

DON'T GIVE INQUISITOR LORDS POWER ARMOUR!!!

They come with a 3+ save as standard. spend that extra 10 points on something else.

If you're allying him into Guard, I'd probably suggest loading him out in the "Shooting" style that O'Shovah mentioned, but make sure to keep those 2 mystics. They're cheap and absolute gold in a Guard army, especially when plopped next to a Leman Russ (Or a variant).

Give him a psycannon...Psycannons are gold.

if you ever take an acolyte...give him artificer armor because being able to take two wounds on a 2+ model every turn is awesome. I like Multimelta warriors.

and as a DH I hate to see our army used as such but it is smart to take

2 mystics, psychic hood as standard

I enjoy a terminator inquisitor because he's still cheap and able to last. Psychic powers...not going to help you very much as IG.

Do not...do not turn your toughness 3 model into an assault unit...

The Daemon Hammer and Sacred Incense are points that could be better spent elsewhere
The familiar...an Inquisitor can't do much with psychic powers anways
Those sevitors won't live to attack.
DH Stormshields suck...use artificer armor
Rhino is okay...Chimera sucks when bought for DH...Land Raider is always useful too.

Trying to build an Inquisitor for close combat is a waste of time. You will spend two times more for half the performance.

At the moment, the only real use for an Inquisitor is for a Psychic Hood and anti-deep strike Mystics. About the only other thing in their options that is worthwhile are Veteran Guardsmen bodyguards, who can buy plasmaguns for 5 points cheaper than the IG version, and get targetters out of the deal.

I'd definitely consider picking up a land raider as a dedicated transport, if you're running a mech army. Rear AV 14 is awesome.
