i recently discovered how useful my lootas can be and i also just realized that they can use shields. now i have a few questions about the saves for the shields, if i were to make 3 of my lootas into meks and give them all shields and keep them in the same squad how exactly do i do cover saves for them? do i just do 3 cover saves of 5+ or whatever the save is for it? or can i drop down the cover save for every shield i have, eg. one shield is 5+ 2 shields is 4+ and 3 shields is 3+.... also my friend tells me that if i miss one of my cover saves i take one wound. im just trying to comprehend how that works because in my mind if i were to miss one cover save with the shield i still have 2 more shields for that bullet to get through before it can hit anyone.

Only Big Meks can have Kustom Force Fields. So only if you put a big mek in your lootas will you get a save. However, you only ever get one save. Multiples of the same save do nothing. You only ever can use one save. Therefore, if you fail a save, you take a wound, which can't be saved by anything else. Also, a Big Mek is an HQ choice, of which you may only take 2.

And this is in the wrong part of the forum. It should be in YMDC.

I almost always agree with Albatross, I can't see why anyone wouldn't.

Okay, so the male version of "Cougar" is now officially "Albatross".

I'm assuming by 'shield' you mean Kustom Force Fields...
They have no such option in their unit entry. So no, they can't use shields.

Assuming that were possible, it would be redundant. You only ever take a single save. So having multiples of the same cover save does nothing extra.

also my friend tells me that if i miss one of my cover saves i take one wound.

That's how it works, yes.

No matter how many things a model has that provide it with a save, it only ever takes one. So a model with an Armour Save, an Invulnerable Save and a cover save just chooses the best of them and makes a single save for the wound. If they fail the save, they lose a wound.

I would recommend having a read of the Shooting section of the rulebook to clarify how this all works.

For future reference, hitting the 'Mod Alert' button so that a mod can move it is more useful than just posting that the thread is in the wrong forum...

It's admittedly quite confusing at first, as they're initially listed on the same page under a general 'mekboyz' heading and all the big mek wargear is described there.

You're after the profiles at the back of the book though, they have all the actual wargear/purchasing specifics.
