While flipping through the DH codex, an interesting thought came to mind.

While it doesn't particularly state they are Daemons, do CSM Daemon Princes count as Daemons for the purpose of effects like those from the Grimoire of True Names and the Destroy Daemon psychic power?

RaW: No, they are not.

99% of stuff in the DH codex that is called a Dæmon doesn't exist anymore.

What I usually go by is if it has Daemon in its name, its a Daemon.

DAEMON Prince.

Bloodthirster, Greater DAEMON of Khorne.

Etc.

Or, if its a Chaos Daemon army, then EVERYTHING's a Daemon, IMHO.

Please do a search - the last thread was...long.

Essentially the DH book contains an inclusive list of everything it calls a daemon - of which the ONLY thing that is still around are Nurglings, if memory serves.

If you want anything else to be a Daemon as far as DH are concerned you must houserule it.

Really?

If you want precedence, look at the WHFB FAQ for Warriors of Chaos. While the Daemon Prince doesn't have the 'daemonic' rule, it's still a daemon.

And why does WHFB have anything to do with 40k?

Shows GW's mentality and how they would basically say, "Are really going to ask wether anything called a daemon is actually a daemon or not?"

Why wouldn't you? The fact of the matter is, the Rules are very clear. To play in any other way is Breaking the rules intentionally.

Play the game, not the rules. I suppose next you're going to tell me that nothing in the Daemons of Chaos book is a daemon.

For the Purposes of Dæmonhunters rules that refer to "Dæmons", only Nurglings count, as they are the only unit listed in Codex: Dæmonhunters that is in the Codex: Chaos Dæmons Book.

They ARE al Daemons, *however* the DH book is VERY clear on what *it* considers are Daemons.

If you start going "but the name!" then ALL Assault Cannons, Smoke Launchers and Storm Shields work in exactly the same way - after all, they have the same name! OH, and DH/WH Inquisitors are the same, as they have the same name.

INAT has a decent ruling on what should be considered a daemon...not everyone agrees with INAT...but I believe it does an adequate job of describing daemons...and it makes sense fluffwise as well.

RAW is not always the way to go.

If it looks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, then its a duck. Replace duck with daemon, and assume daemons quack, and you know what I'm talking about.

Daemons are made of wood?

By RAW as it currently stands, most of the 'Daemons' listed no longer exist.

As a house rule, treating anything that is a Daemon as a Daemon seems pretty reasonable to me.

Why argue?

This is pretty simple: Gwar! is telling you (whoever "you" are in this thread or elsewhere) what the rules actually say. You are protesting that you do not like the rule, it does not make sense, and that in order for you to like it and for it to make sense to you it should be something else. Fine, make those arguments to your opponent when you negotiate house rules. But don't argue that it is what GW currently prints and sells as the rules for the  Warhams Forty Millions.

Absolutely.

Bear in mind though that YMDC is a forum dedicated to discussing the rules.

You're certainly welcome to play the game however you want. If you're going to mention how you would prefer to play it in a rules discussion, though, it pays to be clear that what you are referring to is how you would play it, rather than the actual rules. This helps reduce confusion, and keeps things a little more on track.

Churches! Churches! very small rocks...

Yeah we had this come up at a friend's house, in the end we went strictly by the book, and now every time my mate brings his DH army out, he complains about how outdated they are... everytime. Despite this, he can't argue with the RAW
