Hi guys!

I'm about to build me a shooty battlewagon to support the trukks and assault wagons.

it'll have a killkannon (dropping carried models to 12), and be filled with shootaboys.

Now, since I wanted some more dakka I started to look over the other weaponry it can have, but since I want to stay fairly mobile, I thought I'd limit myself to defensive weaponry.

err, nor bigshootas or rokkits are defensive (too high str), so, basicly the only thing of str 4 or less I can put on there, is a "big gun" kannon, firing frag.

Am I wildly off mark in assuming that a kannon is a defensice weapon as long as I fire frag-rounds??

As far as I am aware - yes. If you fire frag it is defensive.

I would agree. I see no reason for it not to count as defensive.

Same goes for the SM landspeeder Typhoon.

Typhoon launchers can fire frag, so count as defensive for when you want to fire them as well as the main one (Heavy bolter or multimelta) when you move 12"

I've been playing it as defensive. The only time it really came up in a weird way was Zzap guns.

Just to confirm what the others have said, Yes, if a weapon has different firing modes, one S4 or less and one greater than S4, you can fire the S4 or less profile as a Defensive Weapon.

Yeh, its the same thing for DE Ravagers, you can run one with 3 Disintegrators and move 12" and be able to fire one 7S AP2 Blast and 3 S4AP3 shots from 2 of them firing their secondary fire

And just to clarify that, the ork faq says:

Q. If a Zzap Gun is mounted on a vehicle, is it a
normal or defensive weapon?
A. Zzap Guns are never counted as defensive
weapons, regardless of the Strength they are
actually fired at that turn.

And while the question has been answered, I feel the need to interject as an avid Ork player that wagons should be moving 12" or not at all, but never 6!!!

What about loota wagons?

Edit: To clarify, this was more of "Do you approve of loota wagons?" Rather than trying to bring up an obscure point to prove you wrong.

Anything that isnt an open topped battlewagon with Deff Rolla and RPJ isnt really needed in my opinion....taking a kannon on a BW seems, well, not to be playing to the strengths of the army.

Now if its a SupaKannon, which is longer than the BW, now thats something different, but only because rule-of-cool kicks in

Do you just drive your burna wagon around 12" every turn?

Driving is how you get to enemies. To set them on fire. Shiny, pretty fire...

I <3 fire.

And to the OP, his battlewagon in question isn't filled with burna boyz, is it? But yes, I typically drive the burna wagon 12" per turn. It is a VERY rare occurance that someone will plop a squad of something close enough to me that I can drive up 6" and get a good flame on it. Those are incredibly rare opportunities. Is a 10 point kannon worth 5 more points than a big shoota when I'm going to shoot it incredibly rarely? Nah.
