Last night me and my main opponent were talking about possible tactics. I brought up the idea that a Stormraven can get the locater beacon for the Stormraven, and then deep strikers can land within 6 inches of the SR. My tactic was pretty simple, flat out the storm raven, and drop some distractions out of the vehicle to give your opponent something to shoot at other than the SR, say an assault squad and a librarian dread (with wings of Sanguinus)

His idea was a bit meaner, turbo boost up behind some cover of some sort, then move out from the cover on the next turn and place the deepstrikers after you have moved the Stormraven where you want it. I could have sworn that there is an order that the movement phase has to go in, namely, deepstrike, movement, ect. but I couldn't find it in the book, or the cheat sheet page.

Second question:
Can a Librarian Dred buy the Magna Grapple upgrade, or by taking the Librarian upgrade do you lock out all other upgrades from the list of options?

Third Question:
Wings of Sanguinus allows the Librarian Dred to move as if he has a Jump Pack, Skies of Blood on the Stormraven lets you jump out much saver if you have a Jump Pack, does that mean that the Libby Dred is safe to disembark with the Skies of Blood rule if he passes his Psychic test before disembarking?

Sorry, you are a no-go at this station. Reserves (to include deep strike) must come in before regular moves. Page 94, main rules.

You can do this. Skies of Blood Allows the unit do Disembark AFTER the Stormraven has moved Flat Out. If you choose to Deep Strike within 6" of where the Stormraven Ended it's move, you will not scatter. However, if you are talking about Moving the Stormraven and THEN bringing in Reserves, that is a No Go, as you MUST bring in reserves before moving any other unit.

Yes. He counts as having Jump Pack so he scatters less and disembarks safer.

On a Side note, I noticed that Skies of Blood says to deploy the "Squad", not the "Unit". Yay for Typos making rules unusable.

Thank both of you for the quick response. glad that his tactic won't work at least. I was the proponent of scream up the field at full speed and take your licks to possibly drop in Land Raiders with no deviation off of the Locator Beacon. I am sure he will be broken up over that.

We will have to wait for the official FAQ to see about the options for the Librarian. I'm kind of leaning towards yes, but we can never really know with GW.

Does that mean that you can't use Skies of Blood to dump a dred out of the back of the Storm Raven until an official FAQ comes out?

The "Official" FAQ has as much weight as mine. Both are just lists of House rules. (Note that for the purposes of discussion in YMTC this is not true, they are considered Canon Law).

For the Librarian thing, It needs an Errata to clear it up, and the Stormraven needs an Errata to change Squad to Unit, but GW being GW, you have more of a chance of Farting your way to Jupiter than that happening.

Well, he kinda still can do it. Scream up the field on turn one, take his licks, then (if it survives) use the beacon for any arriving Land Raiders. It's that one round of surviving that might be the problem.

If you look at a Dreadnaught as a squad of one, your head might not explode so often.

Except it isn't a Squad of 1, it is a Unit of 1 Vehicle, the same way as 10 Assault Marines are not a Squad of 10 Assault Marines, they are a Unit of 10 Assault Marines.

See, now you're nitpicking. Is anybody - ever - going to challenge that? Or argue that a force sword isn't a force weapon? It's a completely unnecessary level of anal-retentiveness.

Well, given that GW *errata'd* Stormcaller to change "squads" to "units" then, yes, apparently GW will "nitpick" on this.

Yeah, but (IMO) that errata was supposed to make it work for vehicles....................

As opposed to simply not working at all, as SW do not have *any* squads?

I would propose that Locator Beacon does not work with Skies of Blood: SoB is a special rule for disembarking. Granted it uses some of the DS rules, but they are very heavily modified. DS is a form of deployment (wich has already happened if a unit is disembarking via SoB). Also, the LB states that it may be used by any unit that deploys, by deepstrike, not one that disembarks by DS. This will probably end up being a separate thread if it isn't already.

On a Side note, I noticed that Skies of Blood says to deploy the "Squad", not the "Unit". Yay for Typos making rules unusable.

Also note that under the transport rule for the Stormraven "Squad" is defined:

Codex: Blood Angels Pg. 38 wrote: The Stormraven can carry two squads: one unit of up to 12 models in it's cabin, plus a single dreadnought in it's rear grapples....

Therefor "the squad" can refer to either the Dread, or the unit embarked.

I disagree here. The rules for Skies of Blood very clearly state "deploy the squad as if it were deep striking". So It is "deploying" so Locator Beacons work.

Tenuous at best, but I suppose that can work.
