Ok, so I've been playing 40K since RT. I've always liked WHFB, but in my youth what attention I could hold on 40k was all I had to devote to gaming in general, aside from those few years that I was all over epic. So, I never did get into WHFB. Well, I am still playing 40K when I can but want to get into WHFB for a change. I want to have a fun at all cost game to play, and while 40k is fun, when I play I typically play win at all cost players. That being said I need advice, not only on the game, but the differences, so a comparison would be great, as well as my army of choice. I litterally know nothing about this game.
While I do have a few specific questions, please give me the rundown, both barrels, of what to expect.
First the Army. My army will be Night Goblins, with as many squig herders, squig hoppers, including a boss or some sort or two on a giant squig, Skarsnick for tourney play since he has a giant squig, all of that followed up by as many fanatic housing units as possible. I would like the 3 pillars to be squig and squig related things, fanatics, and weird gobbo magic. This sounds so random, only fun can be had and while I doubt there is much serious contention factor here, it does seem like a great fun spoiler army. So, advice?
Second, which pertains to the first, since 8th is heavily rumored to come out, should I even consider the Skull Pass set for gobbo figs? I am going to be getting so many squigs and the like, as well as fanatics, and as many metal bosses as my list will allow, even if they are just place holder figs in the large blocks, that I am unsure where the figs in the set are worth the time or not, especially since you get all those silly dwarves.
Third, if yes to second, what is the quality of the goblins in the Skull Pass game?
I think those are my main questions. Please ask any questions as needed.
Thanks for the help.

As a small note to somethings I've really noticed (now I started Fantasy and am now starting 40k).
Unless they are skirmishers armies and units are unwieldy and clunky as a Maple Syrup Log Flume.
Also unlike in 40k Strength alters armor saves. Thus the weedy little guy (like your goblins and my daemonettes) really get the short end of the stick. 2+ armor is much more prevalent so you'd best be ready to deal with it when it thunders down the field at you (oh and these armoured guys will likely be on horses and thus much faster). Example: to get great 2+ armor= man on horse (6+) add Barding (5+) and shield (4+) slap on some heavy armor (2+) [Note adding plate mail will get you 1+ armor]
Other than that, just keep in mind the game tends to be slower. And that in fantasy both armies often meet in full force and one little area will make the whole thing domino until you just have 18 pink horrors on a hill surrounded by 2 giants, minotaurs, and more beastmen then can be dealt with.

I'm pretty sure O&G are like the worst army out there right now, so I don't know if you'd still want to start them knowing that. However they are really random and fun. I can't help you much with skull pass, cause I never got it. I am fairly new to Fantasy I have been playing it for about a year and 6 months now, so I know my fair share, but I don't know everything. I play Tomb Kings and Ogre Kingdoms and have 2250 points for each. (usual tourney pts) If you really want to know the game I would buy a rulebook. However that may get updated soon and won't give you the best idea of what actually happens. You'll know how to play, but probably won't know too much about what people actually use and such. So I will tell you a couple things the rulebook doesn't: 1. Daemons of Chaos are the most overpowered army in the game (As my friend says, it is literally impossible to make a bad daemons list) 2. 2nd most overpowered is either Vampire Counts, or Lizardman I believe 3. Skaven and Beastmen are the two most recently updated armies. 4. (you are correct) there are a lot of rumors about 8th edition coming around soon 5. If 8th doesn't come (or if it does) then Tomb Kings, Ogres (the 2 I play lol), Orcs and goblins, or maybe like Empire are said to be the next updated (maybe even brettonia) Comparison 1. Fantasy is much more complicated than 40k 2. Fantasy usually takes a lot longer to play than 40k 3. Fantasy really focuses on deployment and movement over combat and shooting(of course they are still key elements though) 4. 40k is a lot more balanced than fantasy 5. Fantasy is a lot more strict about things IMO 6. Fantasy is more enjoyable and rewarding than 40k IMO

1. Definately agree
2. yes it does
3. Correct, some players watching can sometimes tell who will (or who should) win based off deployment. They are right a lot.
4. I dont know about that... ive heard some things about 40k....
5. I dont understand what you mean by this, but there are a lot more rules and such to fantasy.
6. I dont play a lot of 40k, so hard to say here. I enjoy the fantasy concept more thats for sure.
Some armies are stronger then others, but any army can be competitive. (cept maybe ogres ='( )
The difference is some armies have a lot stricter builds that you cant really vary off of much, while other are more forgiving and offer some variation.
Daemons however is kind of in a league of its own atm. Dark elves, TK, VC, beasts can all give it a good run for its money tho.
Back to your question. Night goblins look REALLY fun to play, even tho they arent the most effective unit. Fenatics are terrifiying little buggers. Theres a list somewhere with a battle report of an all NG list also!

In 40k combat is decided basically by who kills the most models... Fantasty is much different, and even if your puny goblins don't kill a soul they might still win combat by strength of numbers... Also... The more fanatics the better IMO, and don't forget to bring lots of warmachines!

OK, Since GW is releasing those killer new river trolls, I need a good reason not to field between 1 and 3 of them.
Also, I am going to have a boss or two on a giant squig and have a couple of questions.
1. How many bosses can I have? I plan on either using Skarsnik or the biggest shaman I can for an HQ(Assume that is how things work in fantasy) and want to have at least 1 bigger boss on the squig, and a couple of smaller bosses/shamans in the regements. Will there room for another BBoGS?
1.0 When equiping said BBoGS, should I give him a spear or hand weapon?
2. Same question as above for the gobbos, what should they be getting spears or handweapons?

1. It normally explains it in your army book. you get X amount of choices for each class of unit, although you HAVE to take a certain amount of core units
Fantasy is
Lord
Hero
Core
Special
Rare
Some units are allowed magic items from your armies list of fun weapons, take a look at those.
I dont play gobbies, but if i had to guess i would say shields and spears so you can attack with 2 ranks. Someone needs to confirm this though.

I would suggest picking up the rule book and your army book. The rule book runs about $60+ i believe. Considering 8th edition is rumored to drop this summer a cheaper alternative does exist for you. Online sellers such as thewarstore.com sell the Battle for Skull Pass mini rule book separately for just over $20. They also sell the NG portion of the Battle for Skull Pass separately as well.
I have an O&G army and the all NG army is always a fun time.
One thing that can hamper your fanatics is tunneling teams. Low point cost tunnelers can pop up in the center of a couple blocks of Night Goblins holding fanatics and the little guys come flying out creating a mine field your following turn. Although for me that adds to the hilarity of the army, for some this could be infuriating.
NG's can work you just have to be tricky and keep at them until you find a working play style.

there is suppose to be a new WHFB rules book coming out , and a new O@G rule book , might be worth holding off buying the books for now until the new ones come out . see if you can borrow a friends , and photo copy the key parts , or down load a digital copy for now ( i don't recommend this ) but spending $100 on books that are only going to be current for 2 to 3 months i don't recommend either .
there is also a surprising amount of unit info on the GW site
which can be very helpfull
