Hello again Dakka community. Here's another quick Eldar question for you. With fast skimmers able to move up to 24" regularly, do star engines still add 12" to movement? Lets say you move flat out in your wave serpent. Boom, 24" movement. Then, even though you can no longer shoot, you decide to use that upgrade and move another 12" in the shooting phase. Legal? Or does forfeiting your shooting phase negate movement during said phase?

Do you have the Eldar Codex? It's pretty clear in there when it's used.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Instead of saying it's clear and offering no help, could you tell me your interpretation? You seem to have a firm grasp on it and I want to be sure I'm not doing it the wrong way.

As I understand it, you move flat out and forefit your shooting. Does this mean that you in essence forefit your shooting phase? That's what I'm looking for clarification on. If you're forfeited shooting are you still able to make other voluntary actions such as firing up the engines? My inclination would be yes, but I want to be sure because I'm still relatively new to the vehicle rules.

I'm pretty sure it is answered in the GW Eldar FAQ.

Anyways, yes, yes you can move Flat out and then use Star engines.

You don't need to be able to shoot in order to do something that requires forefitting shooting. There are lots of examples of this - running, using smoke launchers, etc.

Not always true. It depends on the wording. Fire Prisms who cannot shoot cannot link with a second Fire Prism.

and even that faq ruling on fire prism linking has an exception, they mention weapon destroyed, stunned and shaken as criteria that prevent FP's from linking fire, but moving flat out is conspicuously absent on this faq.

"ANY" includes the special ones

Yes, you can move an additional 12 inches during the shooting phase even though you are not allowed to shoot. The Eldar FAQ covers this.

Now, wait until you ask whether you can tank shock/ram using these star engines. Oh god, dont ask that, I did once, it wasn't fun... most people think you cannot tank shock using star engines.

That would be because star engines are used one phase too late. By the time you are allowed to use them, the movement phase, and your chance to declare a tank shock, are already passed.

Who knows. Maybe in the next book star engines will just add 12'' to the flat out move.

I had never thought of that...

Move 36", THEN ram....

Bye-bye Land Raider...

ya, but the vast majority of the community disagrees with that possibility. I think it would be cool to have giant explosions on the last turn of the game, but the convention says otherwise.

they disagree for very gfood reasons - moving normally is NOT moving in the shooting phase, so you cannot ram "instead of" moving normally. As you arent moving normally. Normally.
