If a vehicle with a KFF explodes...do it's passengers get a 5+ KFF cover save...or the 4+ cover save from the crater in which they now stand.

You take the better best save..I may be wrong on this though.

You're right about that...but the timing is what matters here...if they take their saves before they are on the table I believe they only get the 5+...if it's after they're placed...I believe they get the 4+ because of the crater left by the explosion.

I don't think they count as being in cover to get the 4+ save. I'd go with the 5+, but that's just me.

No, you wouldn't get a 4+ from the crater.. they take damage first, then they are placed on the table, so they are not standing in the crater until after they have taken damage.

How about this...does a nearby unit get a cover save as the vehicle is between them and the explosion?

Technically no, as cover saves require a "firing model" in order to claim a save.

You definitely dont get a 4+ save, as only the survivors are placed in the crater. You can probably get away with the 5+, however it seems odd to get a save from within the force field....
