I played my mechanized battlewagon orks against a droppod Space Wolf army. The mission was disadvantageous to my list, and I played poorly; the droppods completely outflanked me, although my battlewagons did destroy a landraider. However, it is obvious that orks are no match against Space Wolves in a brawl, what with their counter-assault special rule; ergo, this shooty list below:

HQ 1: Big Mek, SAG (with Troop 5)
HQ 2: Big Mek, SAG (with Troop 6)

Elite 1: 15 Lootas
Elite 2: 15 Lootas
Elite 3: 15 Lootas

Troop 1: 24 Shootaboys, Nob, Power Klaw, 2 Big Shootas
Troop 2: 24 Shootaboys, Nob, Power Klaw, 2 Big Shootas
Troop 3: 24 Shootaboys, Nob, Power Klaw, 2 Big Shootas
Troop 4: 29 Grots, 2 Runtherds
Troop 5: 10 Grots, 1 Runtherd (includes HQ 1)
Troop 6: 10 Grots, 1 Runtherd (includes HQ 2)

Heavy 1: 3 Kannons, 6 Grots
Heavy 2: 3 Kannons, 6 Grots
Heavy 3: 3 Kannons, 6 Grots

Tactics: Troops 1-4 would act as flank guards until the elites, HQs, and Heavies wilded down the opposition, after which they'll run in for the charge or take objectives. However, this list will have no real answer to the landraider. The battle I fought Sunday was heavy with terrain, and I started in the middle. This list would have turned the battle into a turkey shoot.

All I need to is buy the SAG Big Meks and piece together the kannons out of bits.

Let me hear your thoughts.

I both agree and disagree, all it takes it that situation is 1 runepriest using jaws of the world wolf and yer screwed. I know because i was in just such a battle last weekend, though i did quite well, the battle ended up a draw when i finally managed to get my meganobz in with his runepriest, we were running 2500 pts and i was destroying him, but his jaws of the world wolf kept eating all my strong units. Orks can totally stand toe to toe with space wolves, you just need to have more then regular boys doing it. My nobz and meganobz much space wolves like so much cookies before the cookie monster. They won't even GET close enough to angle with flash gitz, and there isnt much they can do to a deff dredd. Always try to find the weak point in an army and focus on its strongest. Space wolves = HQ's strong point, they can have several and all of them such to play against, and they get counterattack.

Orks can do EVERYTHING, but focus on one thing, and max it, you'll crush em, spec for shooting if you want, but my opposing list against them would be as follows

Big Mek with shokk attack gun and ammo runt (stick in a building somewhere, declare armor on building and stay inside. Shoot out windows, they will have to destroy building first or enter it. If they have a runepriest try to position him as far away as you can.

Deff Dread x2, 1 troop, 1 HVY//both big shoota/skorcha

Wazdakka gutsmek (use him to drop their tanks, turbo 24 and fire dakkakannon)

Warbikers with nob/pk full unit of 12 (speed to get to/away from runepriest if he appears, use them to draw fire and/or screen the other units.

Deeps strike vulcha boys with zagstruk (17 total)

Outflank with kommandos using snikrot, he can go after any hq they are trying to hide from you. His ability to walk on the board from anywhere is sweet.

Small unit of 8 meganobz in a battlewagon, bare bones battlewagon, its transport thats hard to kill, get it where you want it, and destroy some wolves. then just use the tank to shock any they still got, or herd their wolves towards your orcs.

And last but not least, so trukk boys with shootas in a trukk, 10 of em counting the nob with pk.

You have SOME speed with fighting power, meganobs/warbikers/vulchas, the ability to sneak behind anything they got with kommandos <speed and combat> and the shooting power of the SAG with a deff dread to rip their troops apart, most wolf troops cant pen a 12 armor

Now if your biggest issue is the named characters just remember, for most people you can use any model of that type, just paint it different, give it a flag or try to model other parts onto it to fit.

Always remmeber orks can break more rules then any other army, assault after deep strike , enter from even your opponents side etc. Enjoy the waagh.

oh yea one more thing, NEVER call your army shooty without at least one unit of flash gitz, mine have killed an entire brood of carnifex in one go, if you pimp em out on a hit 50% are not savable by anything other then a invuln save 1-1 =AP1///2-1 = AP1///3-1=AP2 with 2 shots each 18 shots according to odds 6 will hit str 6 means over 70% the time its gonna wound, 3 will be non saves that will drop most any normal model, add in badrukk and a painboy so you can laugh at "gets hot" and you got some serious fire powah! Toss em in a battlewagons for the 7" move and immunity to incoming fire <til the truck goes boom anyway>

I rather like this list. Gunline Orks aren't bad.


Also, Warlordron, your list looks weird to me, I mean, it could be good but I think all the lootas would be better for more anti-tank. And it only has 2 vehicles, which is pretty easy to destroy. Your call though.

Also, shootas cause a lot of damage to even MEQs, jump packs aren't the perfect answer. They're on foot so the SAGs might also cause mass damage.

They can cause a lot of damage though, so watch out.

Thanks, Snikkyd. Were I to expand the list to 2500, I would definitely include two full mobs of stormboys, as well as fill out the shoota mobs; the only problem is that they can't beat the Space Wolves in an open fight -- at best they draw.

Warlordron, I like the idea of bikerboys too. At 2500, I would consider 2 mobs of 12 bikers, and create a mobile gunline. However, as a base list, I would be apprehensive of including a mob of bikers without Gutsmek, and be apprehensive of replacing a SAG mek with Gutsmek.

As to the runepriest, I encountered two of those SOBs against my green horde army. They were both in the same transport in concealment. Luckily, I brought by koptas; 15 of them barreled down on them, and then murdered them. This list above doesn't have the same benefit. I'm going to have to think of a solution.

Well, you can pop the transport pretty easily, and the SAGs can blow them (or themselves) up like I said.

Also, 15 Deffkoptas? Insane.

I know; I bought them on discount for $35. With wound allocation they can cause some real destruction. What I have to watch out for is my own stupidity when placing them. They have a 24 inch range (with rokkits), but there is always that orky temptation to charge, which I would call unwise.
