So a couple of things. First off let me say that I love the idea of dark eldar but after painting an army for a friend of mine I purely hate the models. So I was thinking of doing a counts-as army. Almost an Ad-mech style army. So I've got a couple of questions for you guys:
1) Is the Landspeeder Storm any larger than a standard Landspeeder?
2) If it is bigger do you think most people would have problems with them being counts as Raiders?
3) Vetted up Cadian Models as Warriors. Extremely grizzled w/extra equipment and possible bionics. Would this be ok?
4) Catachans modeled with combat drug (i.e. backpacks with tubes running into them), drills and cutty bitz for some arms to represent Wyches. Basically combat servitors. Would this be ok?
5) I'm a little lost on how to portray Ravagers but I figure if the Storm is ok as a Raider then modeling side gunners w/Plasma Cannons should be ok. What do you think?
I think that's it. I'd also like most peoples opinion on whether or not they think it would be considered modeling for advantage. I plan for this to be a tourney army so If most people think it's a big issue I probably will still born this project before I get it started or I'll switch the concept to a more pirate based or possibly Tau supported style army. Thanks for any replies!

The Storm is slightly larger than a regular speeder, but not long enough to be a Raider (about half the size).
There is also the old French "Sirocco" pattern land speeder that may be more suitable. It has a more stretched design.

Nice thing about the land speeder kit is that it can be easily split in half and an open topped land speeder storm style bay stuck in. I'll link a pic to a land speeder storm I built from a standard land speeder here (before the actual storm kit came in, I might add):
so if you build on this idea and extend the bay even a little longer, put emphasis near the rear end of the model (a throne or something, maybe some plasticard wings and fins... I'm not up on dark eldar-ish preferences so not really sure what to suggest here) but I think it might be easy enough to build your raiders out of standard land speeders rather than the storm kit. Just need some plasticard, tubing, and a willingness to use that razor saw. Plus some green stuff... always green stuff.

The Rumors are HOT about the release of new DE models, I would hold off for a bit if I were you. Maybe the new models will be good enough for a conversion or "Counts as" army. Just my opinion though ... Either way, I would like to see what you came up with.

Yeah, there _may_ be a brand new DE Raider model coming, or at the very least a recut with extra bits - the old model is showing its age badly (along with all the other current DE plastics).
But in principle, I don't hate the idea of a DE force looting its vehicles - sounds fluffy, especially if they take the ork approach and cheerfully cut up looted vehicles to make something that suits them better. So a Land Raider Storm may make a great conversion base - cut it in half and add an extra crew compartment in the middle, add some extra engines underneath.
Hmm, off topic, a looted and chopped Valkyrie (e.g. roof removed) would also make a cool DE Raider

I considered the Valk but the model is just to dang big to field 12 such models on a table at once. I'll have to see about possibly converting a storm to have a long compartment. I'm a pretty kitbash kind of converter. I don't go in for a lot of plasticard and green stuff but maybe it's time to give it a shot.
