Depends on what I'm painting
For Orks I like novelty songs, bluegrass and folk
For 'nids I want anything with a drawn out droning sound to it
For Marines...and I you not...christian rock or any kind of religious chants

classic rock......Led Zeppelin, Doors, The Who, Stones, CCR. Edgy and easy to hum along too but it wont give you violent tendancies (it doesn't for me anyway).

Who's that at Tony?
I can name songs if you aren't familiar with those bands. Though anyone not familiar with Led Zeppelin is a very sheltered individual. VERY sheltered.

If you want something unusual I would recommend:
The Isle of the Dead - Rachmaninoff
2nd movement, Beethoven's 7th Symphony
Overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream
Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.3
And last but not least Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor

If you're an orchestra fan, look in to some soundtracks - Video Games Live! has a fantastic array of orchestrated gaming music. Civilization IV Medley will be stuck in your head forever. Civilization IV Medley Halo Suite God of War Montage Castlevania Rock (I know you said you didn't want rock, but this song is absolutely incredible) Edit: Oh! And in addition to this, look at Final Fantasy music if you're into it. If you can work near a computer, Youtuber SilvaGunner has almost all (if not all) of every Final Fantasy soundtrack ever on Youtube, including the incredibly well-done orchestra concert "Distant Worlds ~ Music from Final Fantasy". This one's kind of obscure, but you should also look into Ayreon - the leader (Arjen Anthony Lucassen) arranges groups of musicians to do sort of Rock Opera CDs, which all center around a sci-fi storyline about the destruction of mankind. It's a huge range of music styles, including alt rock, orchestrated pieces, some acoustic guitar, a variety of woodwinds, and one album that was more heavier towards metal and rock. If you want a good intro to Ayreon, look into Timeline, a compilation album that includes music from all of his other albums to sort of sum up the entire universe into three CDs. Plus, it includes the epic finale to Ayreon, "Epilogue: The Memory Remains". Some of my favorite songs of his: (Just picked my top three from each album) Computer-Reign (Game Over) Merlin's Will Ayreon's Fate Evil Devolution The Two Gates Another Time, Another Space Computer Eyes Beyond the Last Horizon Farside of the World Chaos Out of the White Hole The New Migrator Day Eleven: Love Day Sixteen: Loser Day Twenty: Confrontation Age of Shadows Unnatural Selection The Sixth Extinction

I have yet to get into any hardcore painting, but since i'm doing wood elves I have a feeling it's going to be pretty singer/songwritery hippie type stuff and classic rock.
my general music tastes are a lot poppier than the rest of you all, i can tell. I tend to like to listen to happy music.

The joker in me likes to play Korn when painting something for Khorne.
But I like pretty much all genres except for songs without words..
Like Fred Reed for Country for example. Or some credence Clearwater R for awesome. Or some Jimi hendrix or .. it goes on.
