For my dad's Orks (40K), would a black ork be a good warboss model if slightly modded, and if yes, what should he take?

Thanks mates!

Black Orc models from the Fantasy range are about the size of a 40k Ork Nob....so I'd say are probably a tad small for a Warboss.

What if I were to beef him up a bit, make him a li'l taller, etc.

At that point you might as well just get the Black Reach boss and convert him up with plasticard or something.
Black Orcs are the right size for Nobz as previously stated, but nowhere near big enough for a boss.

There is also the WHFB Ork Boss to consider. He is pretty great looking if you want to do a nice conversion for 40K.

Well, thanks guys. I just liked the helms a lot, so I may add one to the boss I'll make sooner or later to my dad's orks.

You could use the Black Orc banner as a head.

This is a fairly common conversion that works really nicely.
