Plummeting Black Templar Thunderhawk Pilot

HI guys,

Firstly bear with me, i'm a former 3rd edition player who played his first game of 5th Ed tonight (in a cityfight, firesweep mission)!

A few things that I think I was misinformed about:

1)My black templars assault squad had routed an imperial guard unit in combat, and the imperial guard unit was positioned, such that their retreat back was blocked by a tank (which belonged to my opponent, but was immobilised), and a wall blocking their retreat to the other side. Essentially there was no way for the squad to run away from my sweeping unit, as their backs were literally against the tank in question. Am I right in thinking that (assuming I had caught them), they should have been destroyed outright? Insetad my opponent moved his unit through the tank to the other side, leaving my unit stranded behind his tank. I'm not sure if this was right, but I let it go at that point. This was to prove crucial later.

2) What counts as a scoring unit? From my interpretation of the rulebook (and the cities of death supplement), it means a troops choice that has 25% or greater of its number remaining. Is this correct?

3) In the last few turns of the game, this unit I had routed (2 members remaining out of 10) had been rallied by the imperial guard commanders rally ability ( I don't know the name of the rule). They had captured two buildings after being reduced to two members (which I didn't contest as I wasn't aware of the 25% rule until after I got home), but perhaps more crucially, one of my opponents HQ units, and a troop transport (taken as an squad addition, not as a selection on the force organisation chart) each "decaptured" two other biuildings I had earlier captured with full strength crusader squads.

This was then enough to cost me the game, but after reading from the rulebook and the cities of death supplement, I remain thoroughly confused - could anyone shed any light on this? I feel a little like i've been had on this one.

I'd say you've been had!
If the vehicle was immobilized, and not destroyed, there is no way he can move through it.
In Cities of Death, scoring units are slightly different from normal games of 40k.
Strictly in cities of death, the only things that don’t count as scoring are independent characters and dedicated transports. So; for this case, the unit inside counts as a scoring unit as long as the unit is 25% or more. The transport itself cannot score.
I hope this clears things up a bit.

Yes, they should have been Destoyed, as per the "Trapped" rules on page 45 of the Rulebook. Models, Friendly or otherwise, are considered Impassible Terrain. Now, if the Tank has been Wrecked, it would have just been terrain, and he can fall back though it fine.

As for the Cities of Death rules, I cannot answer them as I don't have that book :(
