Stalwart Space Marine

'morning everybody.

I actually got into the game with 1st ed. Space Hulk which we got around 1990, building up from there via two squads of metal Termies ("Sheesh, who plays with plastic models anyway?")and a bunch of Tactical Space Marines for SH towards picking up the 40k 2nd edition box.
My most active period of playing was probably during 3rd season, mainly beacause of a decent amount of spare time during my final university years (Ha!). That more or less stopped around late 2003 as I actually got a decent job and regrettably less free time to spend. From 2004 to 2009 I was totally out of the loop, until I took a long, hard look at the unpainted stuff in my cellar and said "Either I'm painting you or get you the hell out of my house!". So, that was the first step back into the clutches of a horrible addiction. Next, I found some mates at work who were interested in playing some games of Space Hulk (!) and Aeronautica Imperialis (!!). From that point on it didn't take much to get me to muster a bunch of marines and head into battle - to victory.

Er, or not... Having been brutally pummeled in my first real game of 40k after that longish break (the scientific term would be "I got tabled") I decided that it was time to take this stuff seriously again... more or less. I'd still consider myself a rather casual player and a more enthusiastic reader/painter/fluff nerd. During my absence most of my old local haunts (the favourite FLGS as well as the German forum I used to frequent) had died, so I decided to look around in the wider world of gaming.
After a bit of lurking I found this place to be pretty awesome, so I thought I'd take the step and register - thanks for having me!

Plans for the immediate future are:
- getting my armies 5th ed legal (is there any Tyranid unit that doesn't have a bigger minimum unit size than before?)
- getting my mates to play a couple of games of 2nd ed or Rogue Trader for laughs
- finishing a Mordheim gang and terrain
- planning and building a decent 4' by 4' tabletop for my kitchen.

Not for long. The polar bears are riding the melting glaciers south in search of penguin-steaks.
