5 miles north of Funkytown

Hi, all! just played a 1750 point game at my FLGS against another tau commander. Our lists (roughly) are this:

Me:

Shas'El w/ plasma rifle, MP, multi-tracker, HW- targetting array, bonding knife, HW drone controller, 2x shield drone

Shas'El w/ AFP, MP, multi-tracker, HW-targetting array, bonding knife, HW drone controller, 2x shield drones

2 XV8s w/ TL MP, flamer

3 XV8s w/ Plasma rifle, MP, multi-tracker

6 FW w/ pulse carbines

6 FW w/ pulse carbines

14 Kroot w/ 4 hounds

5 pathfinders
+devilfish w/ SMS, multi-tracker, disruption pods

5 pathfinders
+devilfish w/ SMS, multi-tracker, disruption pods

3 Broadsides w/ ASS
+team leader w/ ASS, target lock, bonding knife, HW drone controller, 2x shield drones

Hammerhead w/ fechette discharger, multi-tracker, disruption pod

Ok, no problem, just farsight with a load of bodyguards and even more drones...sigh

The mission was capture and control with spearhead

The board had two buildings in the middle and to the bottom left was a few trees. to the bottom right there was a cemetary and some ruins. To the right of the buildings there was a bunker. I placed my objective between the ruins and the cemetary. He placed his next to the building to right (still in middle)

He won the roll yet diferred to me

I set up near the cemetary and ruins.
The broadsides were next to the ruins with a clear view of the middle of the field. The pathfinders were in their respective fish on either side of the ruins. I placed a hammerhead below the cemetary and placed the deathrains next to the bunker, commander with AFP attached. Fireknifes with other commander were hiding behind the cemetary. The FWs, one hammerhead, and kroot were in reserve with the kroot outflanking

He set up his farsight blob as close to the center as possible. Carbine FWs camped on the objective. One FWs deployed behind farsight. Other FWs deployed in building. Broadside deployed in building with FWs. Hammerhead hid behind building with FWs and Broadsides. Skyray was next to it. Pathfinder's fish deployed behind building with the objective.

His deployment confused me because instead of deepstriking his blob of death, he placed them in the middle of the table, turned out it didn't matter much)

Scout moves: His pathfinders fish jumped to the top of the building with the objective and got out, my pathfinders disembarked from fish as well

Top turn 1:
I jump my team of fireknifes from behind the cemetary, Deathrains jump close to top right corner of the board.
Pathfinders on the right side of the ruins fire markerlights at the devilfish on top of the building, 4 hits. Commander and Deathrains use those markerlights to wreak the fish.
Other PFs fire at the farsight blob, no hits . hammerhead submunitions at farsight blob, yet deviates back into the FWs, killing 2. Fireknifes fire into farsight, killing a drone or 2 (this became a trend, those stupid shield drones just wouldn't die).
Commander & Deathrains jump towards the building with the PFs, fireknifes jump back behind cover.

Bottom Turn 1:
He jumps entire crisis blob foward, moves his hammerhead from behind the building.
PFs light up fireknifes with 4 markerlight hits, farsight uses this, yet blob only wounds 1 suit . Hammerhead fires at my hammerhead, does nothing.
Farsight blob moves up again

Top Turn 2:
One unit of FWs, Hammerhead and Kroot come in. Kroot outlfank and arrive in the top left corner (13 inches away from FWs, strangles air) Hammerhead arrives next to other hammerhead, FWs to the right of the ruins.
Lefthand firsh moves up 12 at farsight blob, working as a shield for fireknifes and hammerheads. pathfinder's fish picks up FWs that just came from reserves. Commander w/ AFP move closer to pathfinders, Fireknifes move from behind cover against, broadsides shuffle around to the left to get a shot at the hammerhead.
pathfinders to the right fire their markerlights into farsight, scoring 2 hits. Lefthand pathfinders fire at hammerhead, scoring 3. Fireknifes fire at farsight blob and kil 2-3 drones, Hammerheads fire submunitions at farsight, killing another 2 drones. (still like 6 left) Broadsides fire at hammerhead with markelight support, wreaking it!. Deathrains fire into pathfinders to shut up those stupide markerlights, killing them all. Fireknifes hide behind cover again. Deathrainst move closer to FWs

one of my serious mistakes, I left the kroot unattended and didn't shoot at them with the kroot. oops

Bottom Turn 2:
Farsight moves above the cemetary. Between it and the building with objectives. 4 man FWs move towards Kroot, Skyray moves towards kroot.
Farsight himself fires at the deathrains, kills one drones. Broadside fires at deathrain, killing the other drone, all of the other battlesuits fire at the lefthand fish, stunning and immobilizing it (I forgot to make him roll 6s to hit, cause it moved 12 last turn, meh). 4 man FWs, FWs in building, and Skyray fire into Kroot and kill 10, krrot fail morale and fall back. Farsight moves inbetween ruins and cemetary, killzone...heh

Top Turn 3:
Other FWs come in from reserves behind bunker

Fireknifes jump from behind cover, Commanders come from behind building to get ready to shoot FWs holding objective. Broadsides shuffle alittle more to the left.
Pathfinders mark 4 from farsight, fireknifes, and submuniton, and SMS kill 1 suit and 4 or so drones. Deathrains kill 1-2 FWs, dismal.
Fireknifes jump into cover and one suit is injured.

Bottom Turn 3:
Farsight blob shoot at fireknifes, killing one. Skyray, 4 man FW, and carbine FW shoot at deathrains and kill all but commander, he falls back 6 towards farsight.
Farsight jumps towards right hand pathfinders

Top Turn 4:
Commander regroups
Fireknifes lose one suit and drone when leaving cover, FW near bunker move down alittle to get a good angle at farsight.
Big shooting scene now: One pathfinder team shoots markerlights into farsights, marking 3. One squad of FWs, pathfinders, 2 railhead submunitions, broadside's SMS, fireknifes, and AFP commnander fire into farsight, wounding him twice and taking out 3 suits and all but one drones, leaving the squad with farsight, 4 suits, and 1 drone (not that threatening now)
AFP commander jumps closer to wall sheltering FWs on objective

Bottom 4:
Sky ray kills AFP commander.
Farsight charges PFs and PFs wound a suit and stay in combat for a turn. (not good cause I wanted to shoot again)

Top 5:
Devilfish with FWs go between FWs near bunker and PFs.
One hammerhead submunition sends 4 man FWs off the table, other sends Carbine squad off
PFs all die in combat, farsight consolidates towards fireknifes

Bottom 5:
Last FW squads starts to get out of building
Farsight fires at fireknifes, killing a drone. The rest of the squad fires into the devilfish, immobilizing it (again, forgot to make him roll 6s)
Farsight squad assualts fireknifes, kills them, and consolidates towards broadsides.

Top 6:
Yep, rolled a 5, it goes on!
FWs in devilfish get out of fish and run towards my objective
My hammerheads and broadsides fire at farsight, wounding him again and taking down a suit and a drone
Broadsides assualt farsight and others, killing 1 suit, farsight wounded one in return. Farsight passes morale check

Bottom 6:
FWs start making their way to the objective
Skyray moves between cemetary and objective building.
Farsight's unit wound 1 suit, and my suits do nothing in return. Fail leadership and get run downk... . consolidates towards my objective.

Top 7:
Another one!j
FWs claim objective
Devilish and Hammerhead fire into FWs and kills 5, last one flees
Hammerhead kills farsight and a bodyguard. 2 left. passed morale

Bottom 7:
Skyray moves and contests objective

Tie game, 0 to 0. Technically I edged him out in kill points by around 30, yet we wiped each other out pretty evenly.

Post game thoughts:

If I remember some rules I might have been able to do something with my fish, yet it was not to be

Farsight blob was annoying as , fireknifes didn't help because of horrible shooting. I might have kill 6-7 drones in the first 2 turns with almost everything shooting at 'em

I had a good chance of winning, yet botched it, *facepalm*

That is not to degrade my opponent, who, because I'am still new to the tabletop, guided my through some rule blunders. It was a great game and I am thankful for the learning experience.
