Hi guys,

I got a few questions came up during a game recently, thought I would drop them here to clear them.

1) Zoanthrope have no eyes, so which part of the head is used to check LOS?

2) Let say a tyrannofex exploded a tank with shooting, and troops are coming out. Can the tyrannofex use its remaining guns to shoot at those troops?

3) A jump Infantry is inside a difficult terrain area, and he runs. Does he take a dangerous terrain test?

1: This is a common RAW argument, most commonly involving Wraithlords. IMO, the best way to work it out is use the area where you would imagine the eyes to be, just above the mouth.

2: As far as I know, yes you can, as long as you can shoot different targets.

3: Not sure.

1) RaW, it cannot fire. Ever. RaW helmeted models cannot fire either, nor can anything that isn't a human (Xenos Scum do not have "eyes" any more than they have "livers" or "spleens". They have "eye-like Xenos organs", "liver-like Xenos organs" and "spleen-like Xenos organs".)

2) No. You have to declare all a units shooting at once when it shoots, even if it can fire at multiple targets. Since you cannot have shot at the unit when you declared your shooting, you cannot shoot them.

3) No.

Page 67 of the Rulebook, just above the Dedicated Transport box, answers your question.

Even RaW, it's ridiculous to say that no Xenos can ever fire. Plenty of non-human animals have eyes. Cats, for instance.

I assume you mean that closed-faced helmeted models could never fire. But nearly every closed-face helmet has eyes on it. The rule doesn't say that the eyes have to occur naturally, or even serve a function. Tzeentch models create an interesting problem, though: which set of eyes do you use? Probably you could pick.

Also, this might be the silliest RaW yet, and thus the best argument for some RaI.

I'm sure he's just kidding about the eyes. I mean as far as going high and right.

Which isn't a particularly helpful answer in itself.

Yes, the RAW says that models without eyes can't draw LOS. In practice, from my experience drawing LOS 'from the eyes' equates to just drawing a LOS from the model's head. I can't say I have ever played against anyone who specifically traces it from the model's eyes... just too awkward to actually do.

So models without eyes, on the table, work just the same as any other model.


(And the whole 'Xenos don't have eyes' thing is getting far more into a fluff argument than a rules one. There's absolutely no reason given by the rules or the fluff to assume that those things on the model that look like eyes aren't eyes. As Hesperus said, plenty of non-human animals have eyes.)

By the "eyes" definition a tank can never fire, either.

Yup, vehicles have their own rules on how to draw LOS.
