Hey all, Im looking to re-do my Eldar army and was looking for some input from people who have stuck with the army over the years.

Im open to most suggestions, other than Iyanden themed. I love Wraithlords, but might be leaning more towards some grav-tank lovin' for the revamp.

HQ, Im not really sure on to be honest

Elites, Id love to run a full Banshee squad, maybe some Fire Dragons and then.....blank? lol

Troops Ive always been a little spotty on too, I see a lot of people using Dire Avengers, which is cool, Im also open to Guardian Defenders and Rangers/Pathfinders

Fast Attack, Id love to try to use some Warp Spiders and maaaaaybe some Swooping Hawks...

Heavy Support could be maybe 2 Fire Prisms and I though either a Falcon or 3 War Walkers, though Im not really sure how to equip the Walkers.

I was leaning towards the Iybraesil color scheme, as it's not as horribly contrasting as some of the other Craftworld schemes, so there's there, I suppose the white "worries" me a little in that, Im not sure how to get it so clean looking haha.

IF anyone could help me fenagle a list for a 500pt starting point, Id be very appreciative and would love to get back to beating on the younger races....

Hey there buddy i; try to help you out! First of all Farseers > Autarch( Not sure if thats spelt right!). Dire Avengers are better than guardians. I know this from personal experience. Always stick em in a transport and give the transport Holo Fields!!!!!!!! OMG I cannot believe how good Holo Fields are! Listen I know they arent great on paper but I play tested them yesterday and all 3 of my vehicles survived only thanks to holo fields! When you get to 1.5k take Eldrad...in the words of FPS Doug HE PWNS...HE PWNS! He is great for what you get. Yesterday he and 10 avengers killed 6 nobz and Ghaz in a single turn! Fortune,Doom and Guide thanks to Eldrad! 30 shots hitting on 3s rellong hit and then 4 to wound with reroll! Killed the 6 nobz with shooting then charged Ghazzy and killed him b4 he could attack back

That does sound pretty awesome. Is Eldrad a necessity, a crutch or a "why not" ? for the Eldar?

Eldrad is indeed powerful, you'll find that a LOT of competitive players take him but it depends on how you want to play your list. Fortuned up he is truly gross.

So going off of what you said here are a few pointers:

- HQs, farseers will add a lot of support to your army. Autarch is nice if your depending on a reserves roll. Avatar is almost a must if your doing a foot force. etc

- Bashees, you'll have to have them in a serpent and their tactics are a little rough since wave serpents aren't assault vehicles. Fire Dragons are kinda a mainstay in the Eldar lists nowadays

- Troops: DA - Good for volume shots and cheap 5 mans to make transports scoring/Bad vs tough armor units. Pathfinder or ranger good for cover save/ Bad for utter squish vs flamers and other cover ignoring weapons. Guardian Defenders good for anti tank/ Bad Avatar is a must. Storm Guardians good for lots of flamers/bad they are squish and gotta get in close. Jetbikes very good mobility/Bad pricey and fail if CCed jsut like any guardian.

- FA:Spiders are good but unreliable sometimes. Hawks are a serious finesse unit and you'll find many times aren't worth their point cost.

- Heavy: Prisms are great but scatter is rough. Falcons are really pricey, Walkers need to be babysat with a guide Farseer.

So what might be recommended for a 500pt starter list to get started painting and playing with them?

Is the Eldar Battleforce worth getting, or better to just pick and choose?

Well you first thing to do is decide the following:

- Mech or Foot

- Fluff or Not

- Casual or Tournie

- Lots of free cash or Keep it cheap

- What models do you already have?

Well, lets see.....
Is there a decent way to go some foot and some mechanized? I like wave serpents, but dont need to have everything have one.

Fluff, well, I was think of going with Craftworld Iybraesil, so they're a chick-heavy society, so, short of Banshees that doesnt really come into play, I guess.

Casual is fine, but it could have an edge to it, I dont know that there's many tourney's around here, but just in case....

I dont have to get everything at once, so lets say no cash limit.

Models I have already include: 7 Swooping Hawks w/Exarch, 7 Warp Spiders w/Exarch, 10 Wraithguard w/Warlock, 5 Rangers, 2 Wraithlords (1 w/Sword and Bright Lance, 1 w/ Sword and Scatter Laser.) and that's really about it. I have other models, but they've got a bit of paint on them so Id like to use the metal models and two less painted Wraithlords and move ahead from there. Like I said too, I think Id like to include a pair of Fire Prisms instead of the Wraithlords for now, also, arent they coming out with a new plastic Fire Prism soon?

What next?

Rumor has it they are coming out with Plastic Cannons before long. Rumors though are just that.. rumors lol.

If going Iybraesil I'd definitely include a full banshee squad since it's very fluffy and you'll definitely want them in a serpent. For a 500pt that isn't very feasible though.

The wraithlords I'd honestly work on taking the guns off of them and jsut run them as swordlords. 100 pts for a wraithlord is cheap enough not to care if they die, but if your getting fire prism you could take two bare prisms for 225 that that will work for heavies too.

For high points it might look fluffy if you took 4 hawks and a Exarch with skyleap/sunrifle since they have almost the same color scheme. However at lower points they soak up too many valuable points.

For the foot vs mech, they can indeed mix. Foot eldar are really kinda meh unless your doing mass Guardian defenders with avatar and a farseer or Wraithguard troops style. Wraithguard as troop though have a nasty habit of getting to their destination waaaaay too slow, then dieing pitifully to a powerfist. Personally I believe Eldar's strength is in their speed with Jetbikes and Grav tanks.

As far as building a list for people I shy away from that, it kills creativity

Ok, so I bought a Warlock to try out the colors of Iybraesil on. If anyone can recommend anything for painting that Craftworlds colors, Id be very appreciative.

Elites-
6-10 Howling Banshees (Mirror Swords or Executioner?)
In a Wave Serpent with maybe Twin EML's

Troops-
10 Guardian Defenders w/ either Star Cannon or EML platform, add a Warlock w/ Conceal
10 Dire Avengers w/ Exarch (though not real sure how to outfit these guys as Ive never used them)
maybe 5 Rangers

Fast Attack-
Either 5-7 Swooping Hawks w/ Exarch w/ Sun Rifle or 5-7 Warp Spiders w/ Exarch w/ Extra Death Spinner
Any thoughts on Shining Spears or Vypers? Ive never used them either...

Heavy Support is where I run into trouble... Ive got an itch to hold out for the potential new Fire Prisms because they're just awesome, and combining beams sounds really cool.
That still leaves a third slot to fill. As I mentioned before I have a pair of Wraithlords, and Im not opposed to running them, but was curious about some input on the other Heavy choices, especially about running a squadron of 3 War Walkers with (maybe) a mix of Star Cannons/EMLs and maybe a Bright Lance or two.

Im thinking of investing in the Forge World Avatar of Khaine model, mostly because it's 1000% better (yea, even though there's only a max possible of 100%, thanks to the Maury Povich show Ive found that you can go all the way to 1000%) then the original, and have seen the Avatar as almost an Eldar staple unit. Almost like playing Tau without Crisis Suits or Space Marines without Terminators/Dreadnoughts.

Anyways, I was thinking of adding him along with the rest, but didnt get any feedback from anyone about the afore mentioned units, and was pretty interested in Vet. Eldar players feedback on these.

Afaik, from what I've picked up in my very short experience, Dire Avengers are an absolute necessity for holding objectives considering Guardians are pretty worthless

At the 500 pt level, I'd take a Doomseer and two squads of 10 Dire Avengers mounted in Serpents.

Is there an all around failsafe weapon mount for the Wave Serpents? Im not opposed to running Avengers in the army, I just never had before. Usually went with Guardian Defenders and Rangers.

I do want to include a squad of Guardians in this updated list because I want to paint some, haha. That's really the only reason.

Im unfamiliar with a bunch of units because of the old way they were packaged or because of total unavailability.

It's not unfair to say that Im pretty damn green as far as Eldar go, I better poke around for a Tactica haha.
