title says it all.

So I'm thinking about starting up warmachine. That being said I have a few questions for you.

1) I'm interested in the game mostly for the models. Allot of them really hit my asthetic. Should I play an army based upon that?
I happen to like the retribution of Scrax models allot, as well as some of the Mercenaries and some from Cygnar.

2) How important are units over things like warjacks and solos. Cause again I liek the look of the solo's the best.

3) How many points is the basic box set that you buy in a store. Is it a realistic amount of points to play with. (I haven't even picked up the rule book yet but I will soon.)

4) How much money am I looking at spending for an army.

5) show I wait for plastics?

Thanks for any help!

Well, of course you should go with the look and feel of the army you like best. All of the factions are quite good and competitive.

2) This goes to your play style some prefer a caster, warjacks and not much else. Others prefer just a jack or two with units and solos to fill it out. I play both a Karchev list with nothing but heavy jacks and mechaniks and I also play an epic Irusk list with just one Decimator and the rest as widowmakers and winterguard with a solo or two thrown in.

3) the basic box sets will set you up for about 15 pts, the smallest game size for Warmachine.

4) Depends on the army but I spent over $300 for my winterguard horde. The more units you have the more expensive it is.

5) There's no guarantee that there will be many other plastic releases, there might be but it could make the wait to start playing very long indeed.

Hope that helps.

I've recently started Warmachine, mostly for a something different than 40K.

1)Each of the armies are balanced and competitive, and there is a huge emphasis on playing the models that appeal to you.

2) Each army is based off of 4 things 1. The Warcaster (HQ), 2. Warjacks, 3. Units and 4. Solos. Taking a few of each really does keep things balanced. If you get into the game, you'll understand the importance of the 4 as they tend to support each other. There is a A LOT of synergy in Warmachine.

3) They are about 15 points, and are really a great buy. At 15 points you can learn the majority of the rules as well as add on to the 'Core' or you army.

4) Depends on the Faction and your play style. Also, how big of a game you want to play will be a big factor. As Sandman said, about $200.

5) I wouldn't hold my breath. While PP is moving some of it's line to plastic, I doubt that they will move all models in that direction.

If there is anything else you need, just ask.

So I got the rule book and have been slowly trying to conceptualize what it is I want to do with the game and the more I see the more I like it. Its very different from 40k, which isn't a bad thing, and allot more rules to go over.

As a start, I think I'm leaning towards two different ideas for armies and would like some advice.

I really like the retribution of scryah models especially those archers that fire grenades and the non armoured units. So I'm thinking start a 15 point force around them, one of the casters that isn't in armor and a warjack or two. How does this sound?

The other idea is a magnificent 7 theme mercenary force. Basically get a caster a warjack and 5 solos for a small game I think this owuld be really fun.

I think what is really drawing me to this game is the sheer epic nature of all the named people. There isn't random commander or rainbow marines but chracters who each have their own personality.

Are these decent ideas for starting forces or am I shooting down the wrong alley here.

Also I love the storm lance knights from cignar models as well as the minutemen/gunmages.

That's an awesome idea. I love it. You should do it no matter what other Faction you decide to play.

Just want to bump this because it looks like Drake MacBaine would be
the perfect warcaster for a Magnificent Seven/Seven Samurai army.
