Me and a few friends want to get into hordes. How much would it cost to get a group/army together?

The smallest game of Hordes/Warmachine is 15 points, and there are boxed sets for starters for about 35-50 bucks.

They are pretty good starting points. What army were you looking at?

I've been wanting to make this thread for a whhile but I keep getting distracted. I'm digging the look of the Circle of the Oroboros (thats the name IIRC). Is there a like quick start book kind of thing that explains the rules and what not?

Normally on their website there is a pdf with the quick start rules. An average size army ranging from 35 points to 50 points for casual and competitive play, will run you $150.00 usd to $350.00 usd ymmv.

They have quick play rules on their site http://privateerpress.com/hordes/the-game

I'd hold off on buying the rule book since they are releasing their 2nd ed in June.

the rules are just shifting over to the new set so they havent made the new quickstart rules yet but this link - http://privateerpress.com/hordes/the-game - has pdf files for the nearly complete playtest rules.
they are not convenient but those pdfs contain all the rules for every model currently released.
as for the cost of starting, it depends on how you will want to build up your army. the starter boxes are $50, the core rulebook will be $30 when it releases later this summer, and the faction deck will be $18 if i recall. new players might not need the faction deck IF their store is cool and replaces the old cards packed in the current stock. whatever else you buy will vary wildly from beasts to troops.

so I've decided I'm going to start Hordes. I'm going to be buying 1 maybe 2 minis a month due to low cash. I already purchased my first that being the Epic Warlock Krueger the Stormlord. I just finished painting him with a slightly altered paint scheme (gave him grey clothing and made the staff/spear have a rusty look). What suggestions would you Hordes players, specifically Circle Orboros players, have for my next model choices. I'm familiar with WHFB so I'm trying to equate some choices to being similar to Lords & Heroes, Core, etc. I take it the mini I purchased would be the equivalent to a Lord/Hero choice?

Much more than that. In Hordes your entire tactic and army composition will more or less revolve around the warlock you chose. Now, when you have the warlock you will need at least two beasts. For the next purchase I'll suggest either a Feral Warpwolf or Woldwarden as they're very good and universal Circle heavies. If you're looking for something cheaper for a change, you can't go wrong with Lord of the Feast solo.
Be aware however that eKrueger is one of the harder to master Circle warlocks. Especially for a beginner.

But the model is soooo beautiful. I've been looking at some of the Hordes stuff at the FLGS. They don't sell a lot of Hordes (mostly 40k and some WHFB and etc) so quite a bit is on sale. They don't have the Warpack though. I'm currently thinking about grabbing the Warpack from thewarstore but I'm mostly looking for the Warpwolves and I'm really digging the Tharn (sp?) Ravagers models.

Does eKrueger still have benefits for Tharn Ravagers?

As mentioned, the Mk II rulebook is not out yet so you can download a pdf file for free along with the data on the the units.

Amazon, ebay and other places will permit you to get quite a discount on many models. The starter army usually goes for less than $40. Unfortunately it is usually a few points short of what you need for a 15 point game and so you may need to buy one other figure. You need to add the warbeast/warjack points that the caster adds to the list. This is often in the range 4 to 6, thus the actually army point value is 19 to 21 for a 15 [oint game usually. Many packs run 19 points. The battle college site is excellent for helping you decide what models you might like.

I have been playing warmahordes for a few years now, and the starting advice is tried and true. Choose the faction/army you think is the coolest, and go with the starter box ($35) to get the flavor. After that get a second warcaster ($10) and try something different. After that you are really a unit box and maybe a heavy or two lights away from having a rounded out force that will always be different depending on which caster you run with. Thats the beauty of warmahoards.
Especially if its a group of you that are getting into it. Play with the battle boxes first. Then grow from there.
And its great on a budget. Buy a sprue or two a month, or save up and get a unit here and there.
I hope the advice helps.
Cheers.
