I'd have said that the freedom to 'make some stuff up' is the best thing about the character generation process - the chance to create any character I want is far more exciting and interesting to me that the very formulaic processes used in most games. As for balance - it is difficult to make Inquisitor fair and balanced, the rules (deliberately) aren't set up for that. But again, that's one of the big plus points about the game for me - sometimes my warband is more powerful than my opponent's (in which case I'd expect the
GM to give me more difficult objectives), sometimes the reverse is true. In all the time I've been playing I've never found it necessary to fudge dice roles to make things more fair (to make the story/game more interesting maybe). As long as everyone has a chance to achieve their objectives and everyone has fun, then there's no sense worrying about games of
Inquisitor being fair and balanced. It be a difficult concept for people used to points-based games like
40k, and I appreciate that it's not a style of gaming that suits everyone, but those people who like the
Inquisitor ethos tend to really like it.
