Ultramarine Terminator with Assault Cannon
|
Quick query for you guys. I'm in the midst of building a dreadnought (Astartes Space Marines) and am wondering what people find is better with the assault cannon, DCCW load-out...
a) storm bolter
b) heavy flamer
Thanks.

I pretty much always have a flamer as standard equipment on all my dreads. I mean what's an extra 2 str 4 shots gunna do for you?

Im not very experienced with them , but i have been thinking as well regarding heavy flamer.
If you give them a drop pod , i think heavy flamer is the best option. But if you are letting them walk around on foot , the bolter might end up hitting something .

I have seen the Stormbolter do OK, but if your thinking about assaulting....I always side with the Heavy Flamer...but many times the dread gets killed before the HF gets to fire once.
A = Free
B = Seems like the better option
That's my 2

anarchy is right, heavy flamer is better but you will have to get closer up to use it

I agree, I would either add heavy flamer to your DCCW, or exchange it completely for a TL autocannon.
I myself say heavy flamer is nicer, it melts huge portions of squads, specially with a drop pod.

Bad. Both are bad.
If you want anti tank, take the twin autocannon.
If you want anti heavy tank, take the multimelta.
If you want your unit to be fairly bad at everything and short range, assault cannon.
If you want your unit to cost too much, twin lascannon.
If you are drop podding, you may want the heavy flamer.
Don't take the plasma cannon.

I really liked the assault cannon for its multiple shots and rending rule. But Ph34r totally hit everything on the head. I would listen to that advice, as it's very good advice.
Autocannons murder light transports. Anything armor 12 or 13, they start getting a little tougher to crack with Autocannons though.

30" range isnt that short...while the assault cannon isnt best at anything it is very veristile so its not a horrible choice. When in range it is still better than a lascannon vs AV14. A MM dread requires a pod to be effective. All this said tho I find the Rifelman config to be my favourite one (2xTL Auto Cannon)

While I have played a dread spam list at 1,000 points I don't understand the appeal of rifleman dreads over AC/LC predators. They're just as likely to kill light armor and get equal shots, the main trades is one can move and fire full, and the other can pen AV13+ and costs 5 points less.
My favorite dread in a vanilla list is the MM/HF dread in a pod. It can do a number on whatever it drops in beside, and depending on what you're facing can live another turn to sow even more chaos. It can also be effective slogging up the board if it can get cover from say a rhino.

the mobility of the rifelman as well as not getting omg wtf pwned instantly if it gets charge is what appeals to me. That said I really like the ACLC pred as well and in my 1.5k list I have two of each.
